This Scope IS KILLIN Me!!!!

Ok, heres the run down... Got a '59 Romy, with tapco furniture with the picatinny rail on the upper hand guard. Picked up a cheapo red/green dot scope at wally world..... and here is my real problem, the hand guard has Lots of play in it and the only way i can figgure to fix it is to shim it with somethin, which looks like S**T, any other brite ideas runnin around out there? It is not the scope, put her on a friends rifle and dialed her right in. And i dont really want to put the after market receiver cover mount on it........ any help would be wonderful

SKS Scope Mounts : Scout Scopes

I've used one and it works perfectly. Holds zero and you can remove it and have iron sights. It will still be zeroed when you put it back on. I took mine off and put a peep sight on, but I would go back in a heartbeat if I wanted to switch back to a red dot.

Another option is a bit crude but works somewhat. I have the Tapco stocks on two on mine. Replace the gas tube and upper hand cover from the Tapco kit with the gas tube with the attached rail. It does not look as good as the Tapco, but with the rail already attached it obviously holds in place. Cheaper than dirt had them a year ago. I have nt gone there to see if they still sell them, but I would bet they are easy enough to find.

I have a 42mm Simmons red dot that I had mounted on the Tapco cover, and it would not stay put at all... which is understandable. This simple part change did the trick. I will add that this part is black, and will look fine with the earth tone tapco furniture.

I can tell you now that any gas tube mount will not stay zeroed for long. It just plain moves too much. You would need something that clamps to the barrel for stability and that may cut down on accuracy.

These are just over $20.00 @ cheaper than dirt and work okay. You will need to perhaps do some fitting to get it just right. Mine is tight but holds pretty well. This part is not likely to move compared to a wiggly cover like the Tapco part.

This type mount is easy to install. You can still use stripper clips. It is secure. No problems with brass hitting the scope, and is especially good if you have some age on your eyes. The rail can be removed and you have a set of iron sights available, in case your battery dies. Not to expensive either, about $67.00 shipped to Ky. Chasw
