Used yugo sks with tapco kit

Anyone out there have a used yugo sks with a tapco compliance kit plus new gas tube that has any problems?Just fishing for some infomation.I have one and I refuse to accept that the poor cycling/jamming of rounds has to do with the 20 round mag.

I have done such with mine, and like the overall appearance. I have not had any trouble with mine, but cleaned the hell out of the disassembled gun prior. It had a lot of cosmoline on it, and much was very caked up. I replaced the gas tube and piston, and had to file down the gas tube portion that goes on the receiver. This was the only part that took any time. I also have the Tapco 20 round mags and have had no problems with mine.

This may not be the correct method, but you could always try a propane torch to clean the places you think trouble might be lurking. I have used propane torches before to heat up the caked up crap in places hard or impossible to reach. Sometimes an AK kit has a muzzle brake I cannot get loose. A 15-30 second heat job from my plumbers torch on a low flame is enough to loosen the junk up.

I believe you mentioned you replaced the gas valve? If so who did you purchase it from and was it new or used? What type and brand name of ammo are you shooting.

I've seen some Yugo SKS rifle with just enough gas leakage around the valve that it want cycle shooting Wolf but worked with anything else.

You can try this trick to see if your getting a gas leak around the valve.

I don't have a Yugo, but I do have Tapco stock and mags. No problems whatsoever with either.

Hrmmm sounds like there is something funky weird about your SKS. I know you've pretty much replaced everything that can be replaced, and I imagine you've given it a proper cleaning as others have suggested.

It's got to be a stupid simple problem.

Check the gas valve. Then check all the pistons, make sure they are in the correct way, and that the various recoil springs are installed. Make sure everything is sparkling clean, and that the gas port is cleaned out.

I don't think it's the mag or any of the add ons. Most unusual, especially given the parts you have replaced.

I tried the Tapco 20 round mag in my Yugo, and gave it up real quick. I never could get it to cycle right, and I could probably load a stripper clip of ten, shoot them all, reload another stripper clip of ten, shoot them off, than to take out the mag, load up twenty, reinsert the mag, and shoot them. No time saving, so why do it anyway?

That's interesting GD, because many others have had great success with the tapco mags. I'm gonna try mine out today in my Yugo then and see what happens, and will report back tonight.

True, but IMHO if one has more than one working magazine then it would seem faster. Of course, stripper clips take up less space and be able to carry if not the same amount MORE than what you could with a 20 or 30 rnd magazine. <-------basically that kind of issue.

With the SkS, stick to stock. A lot less of a headache, is what I say.
