New to list
Hello everyone,
I am 55 and live in SW Florida, I grew up in So Jersey and did a lot of small game hunting as a teen. I moved to Florida when I was 21 and haven't hunted since. I would love to take my old Springfield 20 ga double and walk some fence rows and kick some briar piles. I'm wondering how far I would have to travel to see my breath on a chilly morning, wear my old hunting coat, jump some rabbits and hopefully slip a gutted bunny or two into my coats game pouch? Is it still possible or is everywhere in the country posted. Regards Joe |

Hello Joe and welcome to the site.I am also fairly new to this site and find that people on here are friendly and have a lot of knowledge about hunting small game.It seems that busytails and bunnies are popular quarry.
It is getting tougher to find places to hunt anywhere in this country because of all the hunting leases, but there is still a lot of public land that can be hunted in every state.Down in your area I think Georgia- Pacific has some public hunting.Might be a guy could find some squirrels and rabbits on some of those spots and there is nothing wrong with asking landowners for permission. There are still good people out there who will let you. After 34 years of not hunting I bet you are ready. There is nothing better than the peace found in the great outdoors and like you mentioned those critters are mighty tasty.Good luck to you in your hunting pursuits. |

Try this website http://myfwc.com/hunting/2006HuntMap...1Clickable.pdf , but you may have a harder time finding a cold morning in SW florida than a place to hunt.

Hello Joe884 There ought to be some places you can go to do some hunting in Florida !
Here's what you need to do. Go on line and find your states Game and Fish commishion and I'll almost bet you'll find plenty of places for public hunting near by. Now let me do this !: WELCOME to GUN and GAME !!! feller ! LOL. Please let us know what you find out at your states game and fish commishion site though it may not be called that there. Good Luck to you and I'm looking forward to seeing you around out here...A.H |

Welcome and find a farmer, ask for permisson to hunt his fields if you are after bunnies for the pot I'd bet money you'd get permisson. Offer to share your bag with them. That goes along ways to promoting our sport.

Hi Joe, I was raised in upstate NY, about 14 miles west of the West Point Military
Academy on the Hudson River.
Loved squirrel hunting when I was a kid and did a lot of ultralite fishing for trout, bluegills and perch. Moved to the Fort Myers area in 1978 and haven't been hunting since. Finding a flat place with a hill for a bullet stop can be a challenge in Florida. I moved up to the Orlando area in 1984. Hopefully I can find a place to shoot soon so I can use my .22's. |
