| I don't know about Kentucky, but in NH Grays are not legal until Sept. 1st and runs through to Dec. 31st. Reds are open year round. msj

12 ga. shotgun works best for me BUT this year I will be trying my luck with a 20ga Pump shotgun. I bought a couple of new 22 rifles to try on squirrels but I'll first hunt with a shotgun. Last edited by ArkansasHunter; 05-15-2008 at 08:13 PM. |

In Louisiana it's from October to February unless they've changed it recently.

It looks to me that the present and "proposed" squirrel hunting season(s) in Kentucky are quite generous. I certainly wish there existed the same enthusiasm in New England (NH in particular) for squirrel hunting that many southern states seem to demonstrate. ![]() msj

One time I used a 10 guage on a squirrel.... That was the last time I tried that because there wasn't much left of it at all. I like to use my ruger 10/22 carbine the most on squirrels. Last edited by K.H.; 05-28-2008 at 07:44 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I am fond of the CCI Mini-mag HP, but I have been known to use a 12 or 20 ga with #6 or smaller shot.

Im a huge fan of CCI Velocitors for small game, very accurate and good stopping power, even up to 100 and change yards.

Yeah but that velcitor unless taken with a head shot will ruin the meat on it. And I love squirrel!

| There really is no reason not to get a head shot with a .22. I hunt with my 10/22 scoped with a bipod. So for me velocitors are fine, i can still make biscuits and squirrel gravy. Mmmmmmm

Squirrels are alot of fun...Those liitle gray ones are fast and tricky...They are more tender in the pot too. Mike

I myself shoot the walmart crud, it gets the job done, even if i have a misfire every couple hundred rounds, my model 60 marlin cycles them just like CCI, or any other more expensive round, and i never have a jam, and i have put thousands upon thousands of them thru it. But i do clean my gun frequently. But there no way u can go wrong with Subsonics, or minimags |
