Its officially here! The long tail squirrel competition is underway~ Squirrel tails are to be severed at base and measured from the fur at the base of the tail to the fur at the tip of tail.... Real Easy Simply submit a clear picture of your tail next to a ruler, yardstick or tape measure where we can see the tail & READ the numbers of measurement. Winner will get some sort of prize that will be decided upon later Good Luck

| My First Entry
My first entry. I plan on bagging something substantially longer before it's all over. One pic is of the over-all length, the other is a close up of the longest hairs. I will, of course, let Cross Hair be the judge of the tail's actual length. ![]() msj

I'd say that tail is a 11 and 5/8 " when you zoom in on it. Very good NHmsj.

I saw one coyote hunting with slugs in the shotgun. It broke my heart not to take the shot, but I wasn't going to waste the meat.

LOL ring tail squirrels... thats funny! wrong competition.. but appreciated nonetheless! I got me a good entry actually, but ya'll will have to wait while I find the silly USB cord that hooks the camera to the puter! I think fowl play in the part of teenage girl is to blame... but we will see where it turns up at! You gotta put some entries up to win AH and stay away from peoples squirrel feeders too! LMAO! I can just see AH skulking through some neighborhood in a ghillie suit sniping city squirrels off them corn cob feeders!

I would say that tail is an 11 5/8ths inch tail in my opinion. Only pictures of whole tails can be verified also, and I could make that out easy. There may be a stray hair or two past there and we could have to forensically exam it closer if the race gets close of course but I would think 11 5/8ths inch is a fair assessment. However, since I am in this contest too I may not be an "impartial" judge LOL! Just wait till I publish my picture of big red! LOL too bad there wasnt a big cahoney's tournament... big red woulda' been a good contender! LOL J/K

I wish I had seen this thread earlier, I killed a Boone and Crockett squirrel the other day, but have no idea how long the tail was...I'll be measuring from now on, looks like the bar is pretty high though, when does this contest end... |

I would call that one at 12 1/2". still cant find my stinking USB cable! at least computer is working LOL! Good Luck guys and keep the guns blazin'! OH... to be fair to all our camo sporting, gun powder smelling brothers and sisters of the gun, we need to state what species of squirrel you shot as it is not fair for someone living in a region that only has grey squirrels to compete with a red or fox squirrel. SO... unless I am wrong, there are only 3 species in the United States that I know of... red, grey and fox? If you reside in another country around this big blue globe you are more than welcome to enter too... but include the species... JUST LIKE BOONE AND CROCKETT! LOL this should be a truly official contest! good luck and may all your spent casings and shells be on their mark!

| Work! Ok...now the competition begins. Unfortunately, however, I'm not a happy camper - not because a longer tail has be entered, but because I have to work tomorrow and can't get out to hunt. Moreover, Sunday is a no-go, too. We'll be going into Boston to brunch with #1 son. (Can't pass up a time to spend with one of my lads.) But still, I probably won't get a chance to hunt all weekend. ![]() msj

Got a fox buck tonight. Barely hit a foot by my calculations, but I haven't seen a fox submitted yet. Pic will be up tonight when I'm at home. |

I got a buck gray squirrel today, I estimate 12 1/8". I got a full picture and then the close up. Sorry the tail got wet, but I got it wet because I left it attached to the rest of the skin for when I tan it. Unfortunately when I was trying to debone it, I broke it off in two places, so we'll see how superglue does at fixing it. Anyways, good luck with the rest of you all, this was my first squirrel of the season. Ironically when I deboned the chipmunks tail, I managed to keep it in one piece, go figure. I wonder how chipmunk tastes. http://gallery.me.com/karrakerc/1000...12528975310001 http://gallery.me.com/karrakerc/1000...12528975320001
