Lightbulb Age of my gun?

I was recently given a Smith and Wesson 38 Special CTG. by my grandfather that has been in my family for many years. I've been trying to research and find out what year it was manufactured, but have not had much luck. The barrel length is 4 inches and the serial number is C747XXX. I've included several pictures as well. Any information would be much appreciated! Also, if you need any more information about the gun to help with this, let me know and I'll provide it.

It was probably made in 1964.

Thanks a bunch! That'll help me putting together the history of this gun. Also, while I was looking through another thread, I came across the S&W site page to get the history and a letter of authenticity on a S&W firearm: Firearm History Request - Smith & Wesson

The CTG means Cartridge...fortunately its .38SPL and not just .38S&W...

Yours looks to be a Model 10 .38 M&P DA, start there when looking for info.
they started making your particular version of the 10 in 1948...since yours is stamped it is Post-1957...
they started doing the 10-5 from 1962-1977...which also denoted a 3-screw frame...

The serial number of a Model 10 is found on the bottom of the grip frame. It will be a 6-digit number preceded by a "C" or a "D".
Yours being C747xxx...hrm...ask SWCA

Grab a copy of the "Standard Catalog of S&W's" it will answer every question you're likely to have
You can also just CALL S&W, and they can tell you all sorts of stuff from the Serial Number

You can request a Letter of Authenticity from S&W using this page...

And here's some Important Info...

To safely remove the stocks without damage, use the following technique: Using a properly fitting screwdriver, back the screw out about half way. Then press on it, or, if it is stubborn, tap it gently with a rubber mallet (not a hammer) or the butt of your screwdriver. That will pop the right panel loose. Then finish removing the screw and the right panel. Then reach through the frame with your finger and push the left panel off. Do not pry on either panel.
Can't tell from the pics if its a Pencil barrel or a heavy...
