I have a S&W 10mm model 1026. I've never seen another one, or heard of another 10mm besides a glock. Anyone out there have one?

Could your S&W have been made for the FBI? Perhaps a limited run of prototypes? Please post the answer when you find out.

Yes, it was issued for the FBI, a state trooper at a local gun store told me this. But I purchased it new. He told me that it is a very rare gun as it doesn't have a safety, it has a hammer drop right below the mechanism to close the slide. He also told me that it was never available to the public unless it was traded in, but it was brand new in the box.

logansdad, I checked th web site, I clicked on the picture of the 1076 and the 1026 side by side, mine is the one on the left, the bigger one. It came with the trijicon night sights. Also, it can be fired without the magazine, which I read was an FBI option.

| S&W 10 mm
In 1993 I carried a S&W Mod 1086, DAO, 10mm. For a service pistol, it was a tack driver, right out of the box. The 10mm fell out of favor in the LEO community due to the high cost of ammo, vs the then newer 40 cal. Two years later, the dept took up the 1086's, and issued the S&w 4043, 40 cal DAO, with a lighter frame than the 1086. In every shooting case we had, the 10mm and the 40 cal both were one shot stoppers. A big inprovement over the old 38's. There are more 10mm's out there than you might think. Still a nice pistol. I have a S&W 610. A little different beast, but my easiest shooting 10 by far(compared to G20 & G29) and one of my best shooters overall. It's even more of a cupcake with 40 short and wimpys.

The 610 is a super revolver. I bet the .40 S&W reloads are fast with that moonclip!

I put it in my closet for about a year, then brought it to a gunsmith. For only about $110, I had new Hogue grips, new sights, and some light cosmetic work done. It fires better now than it did the day I bought it. | |

I have had a S&W 1006 and have had it for several years, and I also have a S&W 4006, and I much prefer the 1006. It is particular about ammo, and doesn't shoot too well with anything lighter than 185 grain bullets. I like the fact that the recoil seems less than the 4006 and less than the 92F 9mm's that I have fired. I have fired the S&W 1006 at 200 yards putting the butt on a sandbag, and have held groups of 10 to 12 inches aiming at the the top of the target backer with no visible aiming point; it dropped about 18 to 20 inches at 200 yards. |
