| Member | Didn't Winchester and S&W have some kind of gentlemen's agreement about Winchester would only produce rifles and S&W only handguns? I forgot the reason for this, but it seems that such agreements are a thing of the past now. Jim |

| Senior Member | I seem to remember that U.S. Repeating Arms closed the CT plant. that's why the 9422 is out of production. Maybe that has something to do with it. |

| Senior Member | Their M&P AR-15 is a great rifle, top notch. I hope they do expand into more and more long guns. They will eventually come down in price. The more competitors in the market the lower the prices get.

| Senior Member ![]() | I believe Winchester had little to do with it.The way I understood the article S&W bought TC and had them design the rifle as the only long barreled gun they had in their name was built in Japan. As far as I know they can only make handgun barrels. sam. |

| Senior Member ![]() | I doubt it.Winchester was going down the tubes and S&W doesnt seem the type to buy a loosing propisition.TS was in good shape and S&W needed someone to make rifles.I had forgotten S&W did come out with an ar type.I never heard the story on that.I have seen them at the range and think I fired one or two.Cant remember. The consensus was they were nice but a little overpriced. The owners loved them. I think they were about $1500.I think TC,s icon rifle at just over $1000.and this new S&W at about $850 is plenty high but they look good. The TC is optional, wood or plastic. The S&W is plastic meaning if you wanted to put anything on the stock you would probably have to go to wood. That wouldnt be cheap. sam. |

| Senior Member | I really can't recall a "gentleman's agreement" between S&W and Winchester. If I remember correctly it was more like a "gentleman's dis-agreement" I can't quote the source but I seem to remember reading that either S&W at one time worked for Winchester or some sort of agreement was reached with Winchester about parts production that fell thorugh and as a result S&W went exclusivly into handgun production and left Winchester to do the Long Arms. |
