| Model SW40F Looking thru my closet for .38 ammo I found the above described semi-auto in 40 caliber. The pistol looks to be in excellent shape and I honestly don't remember when or where I acquired it. I used to be (15-20) years ago involved in a lot of trading where I would trade 6-8 guns for 6-8 other guns from a retired military major that must have had 3 hundred guns. Is this one of the Sigmas that I have heard nothing good about, or have I discovered a treasure. Serial # is PAB5xxx. Several of us retired and active LEOs are going to the range this next week and I'd like to have a little history (generally speaking) on this pistol. Thanks Triggerjerk or Sam ? Doc I am so sure this a very valuable pistol that I would be willing to trade it straight across for one of those old Singer 1911s. Try and keep the offers down to a few hundred or so. | Going from the model number, that would be one of the Sigmas. I have the 9mm version of that gun and like it a lot. Of course some of the older Sigmas had a lot more problems than the newer ones do. Around hear in Central Ohio, the Sigma 9mm and 40's have been selling new for right around $300. I have seen "lightly" used ones for $250. But I have heard of them selling for much more in other areas of the country. I just did a quick search on the S&W website and when I put in your model number it doesn't come up with the gun, but it does come up with a magazine for a Sigma series handgun. | Have a SW9VE I just bought one of the "second edition" Sigmas in 9mm Para. When I posted at thehighroad.org asking for opinions I got mostly negative feedback. People talked about 10 and 12 lb. trigger pulls. I did a Net search and found some good magazine reviews. The first production run - what I call the "first edition" - was from 94-98. I believe everyone who didn't like the Sigma had bought one of those as the trigger pull on my "second edition" isn't anywhere near that bad, I'm guesstimatng it at 6 lbs. The newer ones have "VE" stamped instead of "F". They also have an accessory rail and the barrel is .5 inch shorter, 4" instead of 4.5". Please let me know how you like your .40. I would like to hear from other Sigma owners, especially those who own "second editions". I'm told these can be fussy about ammo so maybe we can give each other tips.
