| Is this Rubik's cube or what? My buddy's wife threatened to divorce him because he was a "gun nut." A poverty stricken friend of his with with no money paid off his debt with a S & W mod. 61 .22 pistol. I've seen kids on the street with tougher looking guns than this "Escort" which I now own. In my house I say what I own, so I'm keeping this midget's sidearm to knock off cockroaches. The trouble is I haven't a clue on how to take it apart to clean. While there's no rust, there's a ton of dust all over it. Maybe I can clean the barrel with a tooth pick and a little cotton. Seriously, I want to clean and oil this little .22 and keep it under my T-shirts in case of need. I'd appreciate any information savvy members offer. |

| A standard .22 handgun kit should have everything you need. If it's a double-action revolver the cylinder should swing out to the left when you release it. If it's a semiauto, take it to a gun shop or find someone knowledgeable who can show you how to field strip it. Any idea what the make/model is? |

Hello A S&W Model 61 Escort is an excellent weapon to carry for self defense. It is the worse kind of caliber to be hit with. The bulet will tumble, Tear everything in it's Path and leave a nasty wound channel that most doctors can not repair and the assailant get's a terrible slow death with no hope due to the Filthy Nature of the ammo. The Escort model 61 is easy to clean. You will see a Square Piece across the Barrel right behind the front sight on the top of the slide. This is the Keeper that keeps the slide and spring together. Pull the slide towards the rear with the weapon clear of course. Once you have it all the way back, Pull straight up on the Spring Keeper clearing it from the upper slide and let the slide off slowly once the keeper is clear of the slide. This will allow the slide to move way forward and if pushed farther it will come off the frame. Once off, You will have the spring and spring rod as seperate Pieces. You can then use a standard .22 cleaning brush to clean the bore and a Bristle brush to scrub the extractor area with Bore cleaner. Wipe clean and Lightly oil, then reassemble the weapon. Here is one I recently picked up and my wife Carries it in her Purse every where she goes..Regards, Hamemrdown ![]() | |
