Cosmetically flawed or seconds

I guy I know told me that guns sold by retailers such as Walmart and Academy were actually seconds and were flawed in some way...he said that a local Remington rep told him this... Can anyone tell me if this is fact?

I heard this too the other day and would like to know if it's true.
But note when I bought a Mossberg Shotgun I first checked to see what it would cost if I bought it at WalMart.
I then went to a locale Pawn and Gun Shop to get a quote from them and they were cheaper than WalMart.
I next went to a friends Pawn and Gun shop and he was even cheaper than the former two.
But none of these could get the gun from there suppliers.
I called the next closest town 33 miles away and they said there main supplier didn't have it in inventory but they could get on the computer and maybe find it and I told them do it.
And they did, when I ask how much it was it was the same price that WalMart quoted.
So it pays to shop but a lot of times WalMart is cheaper.
As far as seconds they probably don't sell them...A.H

I've heard that rumor many times. I don't think it's true. Why would a company want to sell guns like that to one of the biggest firearms dealers in the country?

It doesn't matter to me anymore either, there are no more guns in CA Wal-marts. I did get a smoking deal on the one rifle I bought there. It came in late, so they gave me 20 percent off. I had to give the manager heck because it was taking so long for it to come in, so he gave me that to shut me up.

Why would a company sell something that was a lawsuit waiting to happen? They are sold to Wal-Mart and other marts just like they are sold to other distributors.

never bought a bad gun at walmart, however i saw a savage 17 they had there that the front scope base was set a little off to the right, i did buy 1 gun from academy sports that was bad, was a marlin 895 clip fed 22 auto, would not shoot groups at all, was sent back to marlin, new gun came back perfect.

Customers such as Wal-Mart and Academy have the buying power to force discounts from manufacturers thus lowering profit per gun to the manufacturer. However, manufacturers cannot
take the loss of business by abandoning Wal-Mart or Academy.

Seconds. BS. I'm an ex-dealer. You are just as likely to get a "problem" gun from anyone. US manufacturers do not knowingly let guns with problems get into distribution.

No product is perfect. I stopped carrying some brands (all foreign) because of the large number I had to send back. I did send back the occasional S&W, and I wanted to send back a Colt Gold Cup but the customer insisted on taking it. Since it was not a safety issue, I sold it.

Wal-Mart and others sell the same guns as everybody else, they are not flawed or seconds...It would Not be in the Best Interest of Remington, Ruger, Savage, Marlin, or any other Manufacturer to send out Flawed Guns to a Major Distributor.(IE Litigation) I have seen Guns at Walmart that were Collector pieces/ Limited Editions, that nobody else had...Whoever is spreading this rumor is full Of it....

Right on MM,but I personally would rather pay a couple bucks more to my local dealer and suport him even tho my wife works at WM and I get 10% off.I have bought a few at WM and never had any complaints as to workmanship. sam.

i really dont like walmart, but the guns that they sell are the same quality as you will get from your local gunshop.

Walmart and other box stores have an agreement with firearms industry that they will handle the warrenty problems themselves. When I was living in Wisconsin a customer came in with a Remington Auto rifle and I sent it back to Remington and it came back in a month with a letter that said it was a Walmart gun and had to be returned through them.

I sent two guns back to Remington 1 for a cracked stock, a 7400, and a 740 for a cracked plastic bolt cover. Took over a year to get them back. Customers weren't happy.

Think about it. What company would sell something that wasn't its' best effort to one of the largest, if not the largest retailer in the country. Talk about reverse advertising. Not to mention the lawsuits waiting to happen. I've bought firearms from Wallyworld - exactly the same as if you bought them at a LGS except usually far less expensive.
