The 38-44 Outdoorsman Target revolver

Hello
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better for me after finding a Pre-16 K-32 masterpiece, I came across this Old S&W 38-44 Outdoorsman revolver. This model shipped in December 1951 but the series was reintroduced in 1950. The Outdoorsman started Prior to World War II Back in the Vry Early 1930's but very few of them were made around 2000 or a little more before the start of the War. This revolver was designed to be the center fire companion to the Famous K-22 Outdoorsman. It is based on the Heavy -N-frame and being that it is in .38 Special caliber it was often loaded hot and they even made special ammunition targeted to be shot through this revolver that was close in Velocity to the .357 Magnum. Elmer Keith took this series revolver the farthest anyone ever has before the .357 Magnum caliber had been born. It was him that Loaded this to Velocities very close to what the .357 magnum is today, and prompted S&W to come out with The .357 Magnum round in a handgun. In 1950 S&W reintroduced this series revolver adding The new Micro Click sights, a Rib on top of the barrel, and a new Post War shorter cocking action. It was made from 1950-1965 with only 6039 revolvers leaving the factory S&W decided to drop this model forever in 1965. This is considered a Transition Piece and is wearing The special Transition Magna diamond service grips that were Popular in that time Era. along with The Optional Target Hammer & Trigger that were available but seldom ordered back then. Regards, Hammerdown
