Accuracy?: S&W Model 60-10 .357 I've recently purchased a 3" Model 60-10. After making much noise with it and tossing lead into the hill, I'm uncertain as to what kind of accuracy to expect for this handgun. (Plenty of fun!) I've shot both the .357 and the .38 Special cartridges in it. I'm used to shooting Ruger Blackhawks where if a clay pigeon is out at 50 yards, it is in trouble. With this little 60, I just throw dirt on them at 25 yards. I know the sight radius is much shorter than what I've been shooting, and this is said to affect accuracy. At what range with this Model 60 should a decent shot expect to break clay pigeons?

Sounds like you have a trigger pull problem. Also does the grip fit you? Some would say 25yds is a long shot for a 3" to break clays.Try at shorter range(10yds),get used to the gun and work your way out. Also sights can be a big problem,as seldom have I seen target capable sights on short barreled revolvers. sam.

You can achieve some pretty impressive accuracy with a short-barrel gun, but it takes a lot of practice. As Sam says, the generally poor sights work against you. A long time ago I shot in a police revolver league. At one match, a captain from the local PD showed up after working all night on an investigation. The only gun he had was his plain vanilla two-inch Smith 36. He shot the match with it. He did not win, but he finished well up in the pack. He had to do two reloads to complete the twelve shot strings. He was an awesome shot, and usually won the matches with his four-inch Smith 15. It just takes eight or 10 thousand rounds a year of practice!

Guess I'd better get to reloading instead of sitting here asking questions! The trigger is clean, smooth, nearly immediate with slight pressure. I'd bet someone had it worked on. Very sweet. I don't know enough to determine if a grip fits or not. I do have much to learn about shooting these smaller handguns. There is likely quite a bit between the time I pick up the piece until I squeeze that I can improve upon. Last edited by FromTheWoods; 02-02-2008 at 03:56 AM.
