Any info on the S&W SW40VE?

Hi folks, I'm looking to get my girlfriend a .40 caliber autoloader and how the weapon feels in her hand is ultra-important to her. After trying all the Glocks, XD's and M&P's what she really like was one called the SW40VE.

Any experience you can share, good or bad would be appreciated.

That's a Sigma model, and I don't know anything about it. Like most guns I have heard both good and bad. You can bet someone in here will be able to help you. lol

I hated my sigma at first. Now I love it. Get it and order the wolff 3.5 pound striker spring from midway. Then practice practice practice. I got mine when they had the 50.00 dollar rebate plus two free 14 round magazines. Now it is your choice of 30.00 rebate or two magazines. You will love it once you get used to it. If your ever in my area I will let you shoot mine.

Thanks guys. I am reading the trigger pull is heavy and I guess that's why you are suggesting the spring right JimKim? The gun is for my girlfriend and I would really prefer a box-stock pistol that she can easily handle as a novice. I'm thinking it might not be the gun for her. She also liked the Springfield XD subcompact and I liked the way it felt as well.

I hear the trigger sucks. I held one yesterday and did not like it at all. They had them on sale where I saw them and with the rebate, they were $173. At that price, I still wouldn't get one. Not over the M&P.

Did she try the MP with all of the grip sizes?

$173? Bass Pro was at $399! Lorcin, no she didn't. Our local Bass Pro is staffed with idiots I am sad to say, I'm betting fully 50% of those guys have shot a handgun EVER. They had one extra grip for the M&P which was for extra large hands. Since she doesn't have an Adam's apple I moved along down the counter. She liked the way this S&W felt but I'm going to make her mind up for her and we'll find the right Glock, XD, or M&P.

If she's a novice are you sure she'll like the 40?
I had a 9 & 40 Sigma. Very accurate. I doubt you can get one for $173.
Nice shooting guns. Heavy trigger, yes. But depends on what she's using it for. SD, you'll never notice the heavy trigger. They're still fine at the
range. Just some hate heavier triggers. I'd really let her shoot several.
If you decide, she may not like it and won't practice.

A very good point and one I've already covered the bases on John... I'm sending her out with a female instructor this weekend so she can shoot the 9mm and the .40 and make sure the .40 isn't too much.

I agree with this. If you're wanting to get your gf a gun, get her something with a relatively light trigger pull such as a revolver or glock. You'd have to do some modifications with the Sigma for it to be a functional gun. Get her out to a range and get her shooting a bunch of different guns and let her decide which one she likes best.

My wife has a XD 9 subcompact. It's the gun she first learned on. She loves it. She was shy about shooting some of the larger caliber guns at first, but now she will try anything. I think you can get use to any trigger pull if you practice with the same gun all the time. Once you build up your hand strength. When you first start out you are using muscles that you don't normally use.

I really like my SW9VE. It functions well. Hits to the point of aim. I've not had a jam so far. However, it does have a heavy trigger pull. Of course, compared to my antique Enfield pistol, it feels pretty good. I actually wanted a heavy trigger and no external safeties. Mine will be home defense pistol and I don't want to mess with safeties and I don't want to have it "go off" in a stressful situation due to a light trigger. With rebate and free mags, it's about the best deal going in a new name brand pistol. Here's my review of the pistol over all:

i have a sigma 40ve and even tho i agree it has a hard trigger pull, it is much less then then the double action pulls on most revolvers. the trigger does get better the more u shoot, i have about 600 rds thru mine and not only is the trigger lighter but it has run without a malfunction.

the only knock on these guns is the trigger, and for a HD/SD pistol with no external safties i think i harder trigger is a good thing. it has never bothered me. dont listen to the bad reviews and try it for urselves. it is a great gun and reliable to the point of boredom.

my concern would be the caliber choice. my g/f is was scared to shoot my .40 when she saw how much it jumped in my hand. the .40 sigma is a bit snappy so make sure she can handle that recoil, if not, i suggest the 9

really? mine is completely stock and ive been nailing headshots at 15-20 yds since i pulled it out the box. 10 different kinds of ammo (FMJ & JHP, 155 & 180gr) with no jams in 600+ rds. seems pretty functional to me

Are you kidding me? less pull than most DA revolvers? I have put sufficient rounds through it and the trigger is not any lighter. Anyway a 4 dollar spring makes the gun a lot more functional, especially for a woman. I just don't see the need for such a heavy trigger.

Oh yeah, and I shoot just fine with it, but if I can shoot a little easier by making a simple modification I'm gonna do it.

Very nice. I was thinking of a 19 or 26 (easier to conceal) myself.
