S&W 65-2

Hey guys, I picked up a stainless S&W 65-2 for near nothing and I was wondering if anyone knew a little information about them ? It's in really good shape, with scratches in finish, great trigger and tight action. There is a number lightly engraved under the barrel that I assume is a service or inventory number, possibly law enforcement. I would really appreciate any assistance !! Thanks

They are good solid guns. Really not intended for a steady diet of mags but capable of handling any good factory mag load as needed. I used a M 13 to got through the academy many years ago. They're a little bit easier to carry concealed because they don't have the higher setting adjustable sights.
S&W can likely tell you who the gun was ordered by. SOME old Police guns have collector value.
If I recall right the FBI used them briefly.

Your gun was made in 1981. The other letters and numbers are factory assembly codes, used to keep track of finish, re-build status, etc.

If this is disapointing to you I'll take it off your hands to avoid any future...... Oh heck. Just send it to me anyway! I've always liked these but never had the chance to own one.

Thanks a lot rfc.I appreciate your time. I always like to know some background on my used pieces.

LEFTHAND, I think I'll keep it for a while. It has the smoothest trigger action of any handgun I've ever owned. Someone before me possibly had it slicked up some. It really shoots great!

Smith revolvers usually have pretty good triggers from the factory. They seldom need work. If you are lucky, no one has touched the trigger since it left the factory.

I told my wife this and she agreed with you that I don't need it.
Now my day is a sad one. Wait a minute........ nope.

Enjoy the pistol! If you can, post some target pic's after you go shooting the next time! We all love to see how others guns shoot!

If you decide that you don't like it let me know, I have one with 4" barrel and it is very accurate. Don't think that you will be disappointed, but if you are contact me.
