My Sigma is not accurate....

I have two 9mm pistols (sold a couple others so I'm down to two). The Hi-Point is totally accurate, but not a good carry gun. The Sigma 9VE is comfortable, has lots of round capacity, has a nice trigger (probably about 6 1/2 to 7 pounds after my trigger job. I had a couple of light strikes with some harder primers, though I hadn't changed the striker spring, so I installed a heavier duty striker spring form a Glock. No more light strikes. The problem is that I can put one or two from 15 yards close to center of a paper plate, but with random fire, trying to aim at the middle, I cover the plate. They stay on the plate, but are all over it. This is with all brands of ammo and a bunch of reloads. My XD40 shoots a larger bullet, faster, but will put the run at 2 to 3" spread at the same distance freehand. Why would the Sigma be so non-uniform in it's spread? Could it be the barrel? I like the 9, but sure enjoy the .40 better since the results are so much more satisfying.

they never did! this was design for low price competition with other makes. thus on one time they have it for sale at less than $280.00 out the door new . use to have the first sigmas and ended trade in it ! has too many headache's. mostly the barrel is the main problem

I wonder if anyone else makes a more accurate barrel for it?

My Sigma has performed flawlessly... Dont know why they get such a bad rep. Ive never encountered any of the problems said to be associated with it. I must have been one of the lucky chosen few.

So many Sigma's have problems and they've gotten so bad a rep...that even Bud's Gun Shop is selling 'em for $249.

I don't know about you personally, but usually the primary cause for poor accuracy is an equipment malfunction somewhere between the trigger and the ground. Check your equipment and try again!

I just re-read the first post...6 &1/2 to 7 pound trigger??

That's worse than a Ruger Vaquero out of the box!! (Average 5-6 pounds) and when properly tuned can be brought down to 2.41 pounds. Now THAT lends itself to precise shooting Although I recently got rid of my pair of Vaqueros...I'm on a total RUGER EJECTION now...I've finally realized that Ruger is pulling a Microsoft and condemn them totally now...but that's another thread.

Heavy trigger...means every shot will be off a bit...your hand's natural tendancy is to try and keep a straight point...but the extra pressure & movement generated by your trigger finger is going to cause everything to fight against itself.

Even with my Gorilla Hands...all my triggers are in the 2-3 pound range. Just because you CAN pull it, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Granted, the Sigma line SUCKS...but there is hope
The Sigma was SW's original response to Glockmania, and it was a failure on several levels.
The M&P is it's successor, and that's the S&W you should really go for...

Wolf Springs has a spring kit...but it gives the problems you reported above, occasional light strikes/no bang. That makes it hazardous to use as a "Carry Gun" as you will never know if it'll fire when you really need it.

Put some Shooter's Choice Grease on the striker/sear areas and spend about 30 minutes pulling the trigger on a fake round. That will smooth it up a bit and make it feel a LOT better, much like how it works in many Marlin rifles when ya do it to the trigger/sear mating...dang near a requirement in a Model 60/795

ALSO...make sure you have your finger on the BOTTOM half of the trigger. Simple ergonomics...

here's some more help...

Sigma 40 trigger job on Video
Pretty nice vid

trigger thread
Trigger pull of a Sigma fix - THR

One final thing...the SIGMA was made to copy the pull of a double-action revolver as it's child-proof safety...supposed to be too strong for a child to pull. DUMB farkin idea.

I'd ditch it and get a M&P, Taurus 24/7, or a Glock.

Hey Big Shek, That was a good video. Actually, what I did with mine was to remove that spring, and the other two springs in the trigger mech that he didn't show. I sanded the hollow of the metal piece that rotates to trip the trigger and smoothed the trigger a lot. I cut a couple of coils off of the big spring, and replaced the small spring (that goes inside the bigh spring) with part of one from a ball point pen (pretty weak). That lightened my trigger a lot, but not down to the 5# of the competition. I also had to (after shooting a lot), modify the striker spring to stop light strikes by stretching it about 1/4" or less and adding about four coils from a similar spring. This makes a real "wack" on the primer so no more light strikes.

My shooting is improving, but it still doesn't match my XD40. When you pump muntiple round out of it, they are all in a small pattern, while the Sigma is still kind of scattered. I would dump the Sigma as you suggested, but for the thought of loosing all that money since most people want a different pistol. Sooooo, I'll keep shooting it and trying to improve myself. Have a great day!
