Double-charged load?!? Wouldn't have expected that from manufactured ammo....left a good gash in forehead. "Ready, Aim, Fire!!!.....damn what a kick!!! why am i seeing tweety birds?!? what am i feeling run down my face??? why am i feeling dizzy???....crap, another misshap" i am not lucky.

Wow. Talk about catastrophic. I'm glad you were not injured any more than you were. I have heard of inconsistant factory loads lately.

That does not look good. I will have to say that the fact you are still alive is a testament to the quality of the manufacture of the handgun.

I am glad you are still with us.

I truly don't think this has anything to do with the brand or model of gun? A double charge or over charge can desimate the best of guns out there...

Questions like, how old is the gun have to be asked? Along with, how often were the hot or max loads put through it? When was the last time the gun was inspected by a competent gun smith?

These and other questions should and need to be asked before the blame is laid or the finger is pointed anywhere, even on or at the ammo...

i'll put it like this....it was not only the first time loaded(bought new), but as you can see, one of the cartridges doesnt have a bullet, this was the 2nd shot ever fired that did this....and they say 3rd time's the charm....they never tell you what the 2nd time is. interesting thing is....this is the 2nd time a receiver has peeled on me(1st due to blind man loading wrong cartridge). I gots a gash on me forehead from the hammer which was burned shut instantly because the #3 cartridge exploded when it hit me. I like battle scars but the doctor said he recommended laser surgery to get all the brass outta my forehead skin. Hopefully it'll leave a big scar Should've got a Colt, lol.

I don't mean to be rude...but why did the gun explode in your face?

(please forgive my ignorance as I am fairly new to guns in comparison to most of you guys on here.)

Could be lots of reasons, squib stuck just past the forcing cone, over charged load, material weakness from the manufacturing process.

WOW!!!!

First off, we are all glad you lived to tell the story, and did not lose an eye or two!

Secondly, please verify, for the benefit of all shooters, that you were wearing glasses, and that is why you did not report losing vision.

Thirdly, please answer the question..."was it factory ammo or a reload?"

Aside from the shrapnel in your forehead, was there any damage to your hands, face, or hearing?

Thanks for sharing, for the benefit of ALL fellow shooters.

Sure glad you were not seriously hurt. Some of the early S&W 29's were a little weak but that may have nothing to do with this, it may be bad ammo. its guess your best time.
