Just found a mint pre 14 ks8 suggestions

Hi....I am new here....you seem to have good down to earth input..I welcome that.

I am about to buy a mint nickel K38 1953....it has been a safe queen.

I shoot bullseye and want to add this to my collection.

Its a wide rib double action 6 inch with std trigger and hammer..grips match seriel number.

I would have preferred target hammer and trigger and single action but I still think I am lucky.

The other choice I have is a 1948 target with wide rib, target trigger and hammer ...but well used....very well looked after about 97%.

It seems to be a shame to use the pristine nickel gun for the range but good guns of that vinatge are getting harder to find...

Since they are the same price $800 I think the nickel is hard to pass up...what do you guys think..

Welcome to the forum ohioshooter. I think the k38 is possibly the best .38spl S&W ever made. I'm not up the speed on the prices of the K38 but $800 seems kind of high.
I checked Gunbroker and not a lot of K38's, the ones listed seem to be around the 550-600 area. No nickle guns at all, so maybe 800 is not out of line for a nickle model. Hammer Down well be by soon I'm sure and he has a better idea on current prices than I do.

I actually bought one this week end. I was at my local sports warehouse type store and a guy at the gun counter was asking if they took trade-ins. They don't so I asked what kind of revolver he had. He replied his granddads old .38 s&w he had inherited and he had not shot it in several years so he was looking for something different. (young guys like auto's) We walk out to his truck and he shows me a K38 with a 8 3/8 barrel in 96% or so. Holster wear on the normal spots. He wants $400, I offer $350, done deal, ATM in the store so I took it home with me. It's dob is 1961, cleaned up to be very nice. Exceptionally smooth action.
