My 2c. FWIW. The .45ACP is my favorite handgun caliber. And I have perfered semi-autos over wheel guns since I can remember. When time came to buy another .45 I reserched my purchase thoughly. As I had never owned a 1911 I wished to buy one. I looked at all kinds of 1911s. Kimbers, Colts, Sigs, S&W, Para's and then I looked at what Sprinfield Armory had to offer.

Although faaaar from an expert on 1911s, I was mighty impressed at what Springfield Armory made in 1911s. Then reality set in and I got a good dose of $ticker shock, not just with the Springfields but with all the above named 1911s. I have two boys to put through collage. I then began hearing ALOT about Springfield XDs and my Bible "Gun Tests Magizine" gave stellar review after stellar review of XDs and always rated them as among the best in terms of function, reliability, quality, accuracy, and GT mag rated them among the best out there for the money. A few months ago GT mag gave the 4" compact XD45 and 5" compact tacticle XD45 a "A" rating during their last review of ploymer autos, placing it above the Glock 21 SF, although GT mag said the Glock was a quite good gun.

In other head to head comparisons thay rated the 5" XD40 Tacticle on parr with autos costing 1/2 to 3x more than the XD. That is simply to much positive information to ignore. I handled quite a few XDs and I simply could not get over how well it felt in my hand and how great the trigger felt and worked. Much, much closer in feel to a single action like the 1911 than what the XD is a DAO or TDA as Im not sure. The fact I could get a 5" XD45 Tacticle in two tone matt stainless/black for $614.00 W/tax was the desiding factor for me.

For WHOLE LOT LESS money (most likely 1/2 to 2.5X less $$) than any 1911 that would be on equal ground in all repect (and few if any 1911 have a 14 round capacity) with the XD I got a semi-auto with the fallowing

<>Exceptional accuracy
<>Handeling
<>Trigger responce
<>High capacity
<>Sight picture
<>Excellent over all quality and value for the price tag.

I'm not saying the XD is better than the 1911, Im just saying it is one of the best values for the money out there in .45 semi-autos. The only advantage IMHO the 1911 has over the XD is a manual safety.

I like them so much I own two. The two tone XD in .45 I already described and a 3" XD40 SC/HD for CC.

If you prefer 1911s then by all means stick with them, but I simply can not see how you can go wrong with buying a XD for any application, nore do I see any clear cut advantage the 1911 has over the XD45, except for the 1911s manual safety. But like I said, I am by no means an expert on semi-autos.

Just my 2c worth.
