GI Champ

This is getting better and better. This gun is very balanced for me. Had a glitch or two, but I've adjusted it out. Groups are getting better since I went factory grips and:
FTRB: was solved by correcting alignment to the guide rod which was binding some times.
FTF: Took out slide stop lever and polished the inside part smooth [Hydra Shocks]
SIGHTS: Took Dial indicator and marked 90 Thousandths from each edge of gap on rear sights. Started with a centered 1/16 pilot drill recess, and followed with a 1/8 drill recess. Two silver dots. Then the front, filed down the "incline" to the highest point of the sight creating a Wall. Then I carefully put a 1/16 dot there. Now I have three dots.
Future: Enlarge and flare the ejection port and trigger job.
Eats Ball, and Hydra Shocks gets 4" at 25 yds, so far.

THose GI are perfects to do anything you want to. I bought one a while ago and just used the frame and put together a tackdriver, and to be honost, I think I prefer it in stock configuration.

Champ Truglo front sight

During the last take down cleaning, with I took the GI front sight down flat, drilled and secured a Tru-glo front sight on my champ and it is awesome! Got some great bullseye to 2" groups at the range with 100 rds WWB @ 7,15,and 25 yds. It is hot green and pops out for quick target acquisition. I just put the dot on top between the silver dots and pop. Total cost 9.00

My GI champ is accurate. If you can get it to return to battery, which it is not doing. I suggest all Champ owners to go to 1911.com and read the "Feed Ramp" post. This gun should have never been sold without the modifications outlined in the post. This gun is gonna cost somebody's life if we don't demand a recall. I will not stop until these modifications are made. Sorry for the rant, but I will not stop until it is done.

I am thinking about the GI 1911 Micro for a cc weapon. My XD, even thought it's the tactical model, is a little large for me. The price is definetely right. !!!!, if I had the money I'd go for a warthog or the V10 Ultra. Just dont want to spend so much money. I will definetely read the feed ramp post before I purchase though. Thanks for your input on the GI series.

GI Champ

Try this: 1911 reliability secrets. It shows a great port and polish job which I have done to mine. I also enlarged the ejection port, and polished the the slide and frame. Works great now with out a hiccup.

Thumbs up Champ

Just got a trigger job. The smith put in a Wilson Match trigger and changed the mainspring. What a difference it makes in the groups. I put a Wilson magwell on it and it looks and functions great. As soon as the Aluma-Hyde II paint comes in {Brownells] it will go back to the smith to disassemble it so I can paint the frame OD green and the slide matte black. When is reassembled a new hammer and sear goes in and pivot pin. So, with the Champs the first thing you do to it is a port and polish job, a trigger job and replace sights. The beaver tail on it is adequate to keep my hand from being pinched, so it will come later. It takes a while but the Champ or 5" GI is a rock solid base for a great gun. It loves 117 gr Aguilla ammo, it screams at 1350 fps but is not p+. Dead accurate and frags.
