Xd shooting tips

To any of you with your Xd's. Can you give me a little advice. I Have shot it twice now, and each time my grouping is wonderful. But I am consistently shooting to the left. I feel I am choking it. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated I go Monday for my concealed carry if all goes according to plan.

I have taken the Louisiana conc. weapons course, and if yours is anything like ours, you should have no problems qualifying. Are you saying that your gun is hittting to the left or you are shooting to the left? And exactly how far to the left are we talking about?

How are you holding your gun? Righty or lefty? Are you bracing the hand you are shooting with the other hand under?

I would say the biggest thing is relax. I am thinking if you are a righty, you are predicting the recoil, and when you do the gun comes up to the left a bit. If you brace the hand flat and relax when you are shooting you should see better results.

All I gotta do is 11 out of 20 in a silhouette at 3 yards I think. Which will be no problem, but I am always looking to up my accuracy. I'm a righty, holding a modified weaver stance. The gun is dead on, I am shooting left. 2-3 inches tops.

holy crap, i could do that gangster style with my eyes closed, that's not a test


but are you sure your trigger pull is fine, if you have the trigger too close to the tip of your finger it may have a reverse effect of having it in the crease, or as chris said if you're trying to counter the recoil that could cause it to be off

I agree and unless the guy giving me the test was bsing me, I got it made in the shade. I go Monday morning at 9. He said the class was all day, i hope it isn't ALL day. I will let you know what we shoot as in how far. But like I said not to worried about passing, just trying to improve accuracy in general with my new pistol.

I have found, after many years of carry, and shooting all different kinds of handguns, some mine, some belonging to others, that there are certain guns that give me a certain level of accuracy just because of the way that they fit in my hand. If they fit my hand "perfectly" I get better groups. I cannot shoot a steel framed snubby as well with the original grips as with after market grips. I cannot shoot the Beretta Model 92 as it is too large for my hand. I tried a Sig .380 and found the grip just a bit too large from front to back. I need a smaller gun because my hands are a bit small. My large friend needs a large gun. You may be where you are with this pistol.

if your anticiapating the shot u might be jerking it...place a quarter on the top of the gun before u shot..u would be suprised at how easily it falls if u jerk a little on your trigger pull...practice using a soft shot, so u dont mess up the firing pin, practice bullet , whatever u call it... and learn to do a full pull of the trigger without anticapating the shot...helped me out big time at the acadamey...

For a right hander using a modified weaver grip jerking the trigger places the shot at 7 o'clock, breaking the wrist (relaxing the wrist) results in 6 O'clock strikes, anticipating recoil tends to drive the strikes to about 12 O'clock, too little trigger finger and/or to much finger pressure in the supporting(off) hand tends to string the shots at about 8:30 to 10 O'clock, heeling (too much pressure on the grip with the strong hand heel) throws the shots fairly consistantly to 10 o'clock, while not all inclusive it's a good guide to basic errors, reverse the clock if you are left handed

I'm Throwing them at about 8:30 and 10 So at least now I have a general area to work on and overcome.

To prevent pushing the gun to the left ,place the
the trigger in the middle of the first joint of your triger finger .This will be right behind your finger nail
where the trigger should be.You should only use the muscles in your trigger finger to fire your gun.
