Springfield 1911 - 9mm fixed sight.

Okay, I picked it up on thursday, and as discussed in chat, messed up my hand at work on the friday.

Basically I tripped and in catching my fall, whacked in between my ring finger and pinky into the door jam of a front end loader.

It`s swollen pretty good and a bruise is appearing, it`s a PITA cause, as you `d expect I keep bumping it.

But I still put 100 rounds through the new piece for a bit of break in

It didn`t effect my shooting too much, just a niggle of discomfort taking my concentration.

Now, I partially stripped the gun for inspection, oiled with Mobil 1 ( which I highly recommend ) put the idiot scratch on it went along to shoot.

First 20 or so we a bit alarming, I had to aim a foot high. It settled after a few and by 100 it`s looking real good and will get better.

So, Springfield 1911 -9mm fixed sight Stainless... I like it. I actually like it a lot.

Every gun fancier should own a 1911, I`d like a bucket full of them now.

Was this older chap in the booth beside me today, I noticed he had a 1911 too. Then as I scrambled around for the brass ( bit undignified for a revolver person ) I picked up what turned out to be his ACP45`s.

I got talking to him in the foyer, he had a Norinco with some colt bits on it, was really nice.

He said: " you might be interested in this " And pulled out what I thought was a Single Six, only this .22 single action is uber, you could have reamed the cylinder and barrel out for 45 LC or bigger.

He went on " I bought that when I was 18 ( turns out he`s approaching 80 ) chap named ( I think Harry Scott ) made 30 of them, thats #19....

It was over 60 years old, brass trigger surround frame thingy, you know the deal, I gasped that it was really priceless.

It was too, he went on to say he`d carried as a working gun as a stockman on his property in the far north for 60 odd years..

He was an incredibley interesting guy, he told me a fellow form the states was comiing here for a deer hunt he`d arranged for him, and said ( wait for this... ) I work at Freedom Arms, I`ll bring you one over for arranging the deer hunt, watcha want?? Old guy said, a 475 with a 6 inch barrel...

He put it down to just talk and thought nothing more of it.. Guy rang him and asked what serial number he`d like? He couldn`t guess, so the guy said how about your intials and the number 500? Okay what ever ya reckon..

Then: I`m coming soon, with ya revolver, better get an import permit... and he did!

I didnt get to see this gun, but I could well imagine it. After he left the range guy told me this old chap had a 20 yr old daughter...

After seeing him shoot that .45 Norinco, I`d not be surprised what the heck he did, if I look as good as he did when I 60 I`ll be happy.
