Impressive torture test

very interesting read. i was thinking about getting a glock until i read how well this did. biggest buying factor of course was the feel of the gun.

Thomas, glad to have another Washingtonian on board...

I am certain the XD is on par with the GLOCK from those tests... but not superior (personal opinion). And how a gun feels makes a big difference (so for you, XD is better).

Oh, did I mention the GLOCK torture test included salt and dropping it from an airplane?

the glcok test seemed more detailed about what they did and seemed to be more severe. good find

The glock test was severe, but the XD was as well. If the XD really is $100 less, I'd rather buy that.

A torture test is great and all ... but which gun actually fits (comfort) your hand? Which gun is most comfortable to you in terms of control locations? What conditions will the gun be fired in? Those are the key questions that really need answers before anything else...

Another point to consider - torture tests are interesting and do provide information yet we need to consider something else.

In combat whether it be on foreign soil or a home invasion it is a matter of your capability with your firearm. No one is going to live long enough to
fire a thousand rounds out of a handgun without some commonsense
cleaning and lubrication.

It is a matter of quality rather than quantity practice.

i dont like that fact that the test is done by Springfield armory(it is right? it was on their website)

i know their more likely to be the only ones willing to pay for such a test but sill

id rather see a torture test done via a private member

the glock is right, i remember reading that.
i trust the glock a little more Ive fired a few
and only held a XD

the XD is still "the new guy" and still has a bit to prove


i dont own neither so my opinion is pure.

but i did see a used glock 19 at my local shop for $425
wich it why im doing the research, good price right?
im gonna make my decision in a few days when i get more info on it

I had my first XD and loved it before I read this. Then a saw it in handgun magazine and I knew Springfield was my brand for life.

Exactly, and Glocks just don't feel good in my short fat fingered hand. A nice 1911 does.

This was done by Handguns Magazine. It's just press coverage that they put on their site.

Torture tests don't really prove anything in the real world, how many people ever have to chip their gun out of a block of ice before firing? If you like it, it feels good, buy it, and don't worry about the opinions of others, JMHO....

Nothing against glocks but they just feel cheap to me their accurate but the ones I have shot the slide just feels a little too loose for my taste. I like the xd because it fits my hands better and everything feels tight and right where it's suposed to be while operating it.

i watched that glock torture test where they threw the 21 out of the plane. dug it out of the mud and fired it. the one that really sent shivers down my spine is where they dragged it down the street behind the truck. poor gun!!

the xd is an impressive weapon in my eyes........but as already stated, the glock ain't no slouch either....unfortunately, neither one felt "right".........but another weapon that impresses me is the cz po1 and i remember it also underwent some serious testing for NATO and passed. Now that gun just plain fits me as well as its cousin the cz75 pcr.........

xd though definately appears to be making in-roads into law enforcement.....

We were issued the Sig P220. It did great in the mud of Central and south america, so I actually do put a lot of weight on "torture" tests. Which is why I don't own an ar..LOL...BUT again, as many have already said, if you can't shoot it right new out of the box, all the mud and snow and ice and dragging and plane drops isn't going to make you any more effective with your weapon..

Torture tests are like comparing penis sizes. I dont plan on dragging my gun behind a truck, freezing it, dropping it from and airplane ect. The only prectical tests I see is the mud and sand incase you drop it while hiking or hunting witch should never happen with a loaded gun in the first place.

Great choice picking the XD over the Glock. Most people are either Glock lovers or Glock haters. I am one who does not think highly of a Glock. Years back I was having stomach problems. My Doctor did a few tests. He asked me to bring him a stool sample so I delivered a Glock to his office. However, I never put any weight in all these torture tests. Just about every gun manufacturer has some sort of torture test they show. They are all very impressive but how often do you shoot 15,000 rounds between cleanings? Do you ever run your gun over with a truck? Have you ever buried your gun in the mud for 2 days then taken it out shooting un cleaned? Beat it up with a hammer? Lit it on fire? Froze it in the middle of a block of ice for a month? Dropped your gun off a helicopter or had an elephant sit on it during shooting? I have never done any of those things or the many other foolish things they do during a torture test. I take my gun to the range, shoot a couple hundred rounds, take it home, strip it down, clean it up well, oil it and put it in a box in a climate controlled house until the next range trip. I clean my carry gun once a month even when I don't shoot it and always clean it if I do shoot it.
