1911A1 Warranty Turnaround

I had been having problems with my SA 1911. It wouldn't go into battery sometimes, and the thumb saftey was extremely hard to disengage.

I sent the gun off to SA last Friday. and Fed Ex just brough it by my house. That has got to be a recodrd for fastest warranty repair I have seen.

The work order says

1911-A1 Plunger Tube, H.C.
Tuned Thumb Saftey. Refit Barrel
Tested

I was pleased to find that they either polished my slide or replaced it all together.

I had a ugly "idiot mark" on the slide from my first attempt at field stripping it. Well it's gone and it looks like a brand spanking new gun.

UPDATE

I took it out today and it was still doing the exact same thing. 1/2 the time when you would go to chamber the first round of the magazine it would not fully go into battery.

I think that a stronger recoil spring would force the slide into battery. I guess that is going to be my next course of action.

I will bet, you are not having problem with your PT 1911. I have one and that piece is sweet. I also have two Charles Daly .45 and both of them are sweet as well. Never had any problem with them. Always ready to go BANG! BANG! Hahaha. I hope you get your piece fix soon.

Does it cycle ok manually? If not, try a different magazine altogether and try cycling manually. If it does then, take it to the range with that mag and see what happens? Also get and try some different ammunition. Some guns are fickle.

Worse comes to worse, call Springfield back and first ask what "testing" involves? If they say they test fire it, ask with what kind of ammo and how many rounds? Then tell them you're only asking because you sent the thing in for repair and it's doing the same thing as if no one even did anything to it. Explain it looks better but doesn't function any better. Then ask about having to pay for shipping again. They might send a pick up for it?

I'm sure it's not all stuff you've thought of or considered, but then, maybe it isn't.

Is the safety any better? Did they at least fix that? Good luck.

Yep, the PT1911 has 100% from day one. Not a single problem.

They fixed the saftey, but it just won't go all the way into batter when loading the first round and sometimes while firing it will do the same thing on the last round.

I'm gonna try and send it back again and request that they shoot it a bit more.

Try a few different brands of ammunition and see which works best. You might also try using different magazines. I had an RIA 1911 that I experienced similar issues with. Used a small amount of Flitz metal polish on a cleaning patch to polish up the feed ramp a bit. Cured the problem.
