Now I don't want to start up anything.....BUT!

Lets just say I had a little "accident" reloading, and burst the barrel of my 1911A1 GI. Now after getting the rest of the gun checked out by a gunsmith, and him saying it was fine, I had him replace the barrel with a Wilson Combat match grade barrel and fitting bushing. My group sizes immediately halved. Now I bought the gun because I rented one to see if I really "had" to have a 1911, and the Springer looked real pretty. After which I decided I did have to have one. And I was never dissatisfied with the groups I was getting. But now I am spoiled. Well, I guess that's what you get when you buy about the cheapest 45 they make.

P.S. The accident was probably a double charge of powder. The only things that went flying were the magazine parts and bullets out of the magwell. I was lucky. I am also VERY much more careful when weighing out powder charges.

Glad you're alright. You definately have to be careful reloading. What did the barrel and bushing run you if I might ask?

Always watch the charge being dropped with a nice light attached to your press. NO distractions. Always. Glad your OK. Now you know what a Squib sounds like, you'll be able to tell in the future.

LOL! Double charge will do that to you and your gun. You are a lucky man, and I am glad that you weren't injured, and the M1 came out OK. Just a word of caution to all.

When out in the field(not so much on the shooting range) always check your breach, making sure there isn't any sand, dirt, grass particle that could hamper a total lock. I experienced a not fully locked breach on my M1 carbine due to the pin head of a sticker burr. Not pleasent, not pleasent at all. It blew primer portion of the casing out and left the rest in the barrel... not to mention leaving me blinded for about a minute and with a blooded face. I'm left handed, so everything came at me.

On the safety side. Regardless of a new gun, or older.... keep it clean and check it. I learned the hard way.

From the location of the post I'd say it was a springfield.

My shooting buddy had a SA for his first M1911. It never grouped well. Had a couple other problems too - in a brand new gun! He traded it for a Rock Island and is happy - shoots much better.
Had he taken the SA to a good 'smith, it could've been put right I'm sure - but my buddy doesn't like dealing with 'smiths - the only local guy that's good is also very slow - has a backlog you wouldn't believe!

So far I have been lucky with my Charles Daly, Colt Commander and PT 1911. This PT1911 is a really nice piece. I am not really in to that grouping stuff, as long as I can hit what I am shooting at, I am happy with it.

I bought a Wilson bushing and in my spare time for several days I slowly fit the bushing to the factory SA barrel. Shoots just great! All I did was hand sand it with emory cloth, then polished it shiny when I had it to size.

I am glad that nobody was hurt. Let this be a lesson to anyone that wants to start reloading.
