This basic Savage/Stevens/Springfield .22 rifle design (NO connection whatsoever to Springfield Armory) was built in many variations over many years, and even marketed under a variety of store names. Mostly, differences are in sights, stock, bolt knobs, trigger guards and rear receiver cap styles. Basic action remained essentially unchanged. If you need parts, Numrich has plenty, with majority of action parts pretty much interchangeable. I have the earlier Springfield M187A, and it easily outshoots my much newer Ruger 10-22 and Marlin M60!

60 Bucks is what mine set me back too! I'm reblueing it with cold blue and I refinished the stock. I think I'm gonna like her pretty well.

I found this thread when I did a google search for savage / springfield 187n. I just realized it was under the springfield armory forums. As Big Dog pointed out, has nothing to do with Springfield Armory. Yeah, I was pretty pleased with the price myself! Though we'd hope a near 50 year old .22 wouldn't be a whole lot more than that.
