What's the difference?

Maybe the answer is simple and I just missed it somewhere along the way. I have been looking at the sprinfield armory website at the XD pistols. I guess for starters I still do not know what the difference is between the XD and the XDM pistols and the way I understand the chart on the website, the only caliber the XDM comes in is .40cal. Could somebody maybe help me clear this up and am I correct in the assumption on the caliber the XDM comes in and is that the only caliber it comes in?

Lightbulb Try Again . . .

It is currently available in 9mm & .40 cal - rumor has the .45acp in the works - coming soon . . .

The primary differences between the XD & XDM are the grips & the M comes with a match grade barrel - the M trigger has been improved also.

There may well be some more subtle differences as well . . .

Go back to the SA website & look again . . . closely compare the two - it's all there!

XDM has better sights, match grade barrel and trigger, interchangable backstraps, higher magazine capacity, redesigned slide slightly canted inward, deeper serrations for better grip, different shape frame for better grip, 4.5 inch barrel. Also it is availible in 9mm and 40

Thanks guys, I went back and looked again. I was looking for two separate pistols. The XDM is the XD with the improvements you guys listed. Tejano, you don't know of a tenative date for the .45acp do you? (Spring, summer, fall etc....).

I believe the XDM also comes with three different size backstraps so you can find a shape that fits your hands the best.

Unhappy RE: Gun Show Intel . . .

Spoke with a major high volume dealer who recently spoke with SA & reports that the XD(M)45 is "in the works" - i.e. - new frame rail is being developed (the 9 & 40 share the same one) . . . N F I to include even so much as a guesstimate for a delivery date. Sorry!

Thanks Tejano, maybe it's not far off if it shares the same frame rail as the 9 & 40.

Question At least it's in the works . . .

It was my understanding that the .45 would not share the same frame rail which was the primary cause for the delay in it's release . . . sorry, if I confused the issue!

No problem, guess I should have paid more attention to the parenthesis, seeing how that is what there for, separation of subject. Thanks.
