9mm Casing Failure

Range Report....

Went out an fired my Spring Field XDM 9 for the first time. The cartridges were reloaded rounds. They even seemed a little hot for a 9mm and one of the casing actually blew. I never have been a fan of shooting reloads from sources unknown but I had been given 2 boxes so I thought what the heck why not it has a fully supported barrel unlike the glock. Needless to saw I had some gunpowder blasted on my face but no injuries. The pistol still works fine.

I'll post pictures of the blown casing. In the mean time don't forget to wear shooting glass's

Sounds like you got bad reloads. I have shot over 1,000 reloads that I loaded myself through my 9MM XDM with no issues at all.

Don't shoot reloads you haven't reloaded yourself; unless you know the person who reloaded them and then think twice.
It's important to know what powder and how much.
This doesn't mean don't shoot factory reloads such as Precision Cartridge, for example.

+2,000,000,000,000,000 (2 trillion for those unaware of how many 0's that is)

I have shot well over 2k of my own reloads and cast bullets without issue. The best thing to do is use your own reloads, while your gun my seem fine it could be damaged you should get dimensions for it from Springfield and measure it up, you may find the slide and chamber to be stretched or damaged. This sounds like the reloads were hot, probably why you got them for free. Also Brass shot in a Glock shouldn't be reloaded because it damages the web.

Yea you might want to play it safe and have a gun smith check out the gun. Probably nothing wrong, but why chance it.

That is good information to have. I never knew that about a Glock. I get most of my Brass off the floor of my Range. The range in in Miami and Glock seems to be the gun of choice among the Miami "I want to be a Cop" locals.

I have always gone with that rule "only shoot what you reload". However the reloads were given to me from my father as a trade for some 45acp hard ball I had. I didn't notice they were reloads until I went to load some up while out hunting hogs on the family land. At the time they were all I had with me to fire and I had yet to fire the new pistol so.....yup lesson learned.
