We all know that this means that this summer and fall will see record storms, especially hurricanes. Hurricane season is NOW. Tornado season is coming! Do you live in the Southeast? Do you have water, food, first aid, candles, lights/batteries, duct tape, rope, emergency whistles, heat/fire, tools to free yourself from rubble? A generator would make life easier. you'll need some fuel cans.

I live in the mid west and I know a lot of people here are worried we're going to have a repeat of last fall/winter. We didn't really have much of a winter to speak of. We sorta just transitioned from a mild fall straight into spring for about a month then right on into a scorching summer. Our Tornado season is pretty much gone, it's usually earlier in the spring, though if the gulf coast region sees an increase in hurricanes we'll probably see an increase in late season storms after land fall. About the only good thing I can say about that is we need the rain.... We're about as prepared as we can be I think, hope you guys down there come out ok. I know we could all use a dramatic drop in temps about now.

I hear that... last year was crazy, we had a fairly mild summer followed by a very very mild winter. Now this whole summer has been obnoxious hot. I am hoping this means we will have a nice cold winter to help even things out once more.
The predictions I have read put this drout out as long as 10 years . I sure hope not Kansas would be something like the Australian outback . I know one thing until I get 10 inches of rain in two monthes I can't even begin to think about planting any crops . I don't have the capital that the corporate welfare farmers do . One more year like this will put me out of the game .

It was crazy like that here last year. We were so dry last year and we had wildfires all over. This year, to date we are about 12 inches above average for rainfall, and around 25 inches over what we had last year alone. And it really hasn't rained that much. It's been fairly nice; it's not like we haven't been able to enjoy the outside.
No hurricanes yet this year, but the season's not over.
A couple weekends ago, we had a power outage. Unsure of the cause. But we got home around 4:00 one Saturday and there was no power. We just kept everything closed up, I sat down in my recliner and took a nap! It was nice! Not having the noise of the TV, the computer, the hum of the refrigerator and of general electronics using power. Just peace and quiet. Ahhhh. Power came back around 7:30 just as a storm was blowing in. I was thankful to get the AC back because the temp had risen from a nice 72 that I keep it to 78 and I was getting a little warm, but the quietness of a power outage was quite tranquil and enjoyable.
One of the long standing predictions associated with global climate warming is an increase in extremes of weather. Natural cycle or man caused, the place seems warmer and I think we can expect more of the same, but bigger.
Remember, Greenland was once home to Viking settlements far inland. This is nothing new, but that doesn't make it any easier on those who see their crops dying in the field. Wait until it cycles through to feed prices, more hogs and cattle are culled because of cost to feed, and food prices then go up due to low supply. If you can do it, buy a side or two of beef now and hope the freezer stays cold during the coming power outages associated with the storms.
Personally, I'll think in terms of those two Hispanic kids messing with the Pacific Ocean waters - el Nino' and la Nina'. I think this coming winter will be a beast simply because over the long haul the average yearly temperatures and precip don't vary a whole lot. What we get now as excess heat and lack of moisture will even up with a cold and snowy winter. JMHO, not based in any scientific studies or factual information, so don't bet the farm on it.

I still have yet to see any proof that man is the problem. We've had god how many ice ages before man was ever aroound. There are fossils an Antartica from before man was around. I believe there are just natural cycles of heat and warmth, and that "Global Warming" by man is just a way to get grant money.
Yeah I hope everything averages out. In March, April, May of 2011 my location was averaging almost an inch of rain a week. From June on till winter the precip was normal.
This year has been just the opposite. We'll just have to wait to see what the upcoming winter will be like.
We've definitely been in a year-long heatwave. That "derecho" wind storm we had here a month or two ago sure was something. I had never seen anything like that before. Glad we have a generator though, it comes in handy

I live in a coastal state with clouds blown in from over the Pacific. The higher temps create more evaporation and more clouds so the rainfall actually increases. It's the kind of rain that's different. It rains later into the summer and this rain comes in the form of thunderstorms with lightning hitting the ground. Sometimes it pours. Other times we get just the lightning and a few drops. But that lightning can, and has, created wildfires and we have a lof of stuff that burns.
Excessive heat will be followed by other excessive weather events. In the Texas Panhandle we have replaced last years drought with this year's evaporation. Agriculture is really taking another big hit.
