| Member | I like the new addition here and I hope I'm not jumpin the gun, lol, on posting in here first! I'm sure a popular topic in here will be the SHTF stuff so I was wondering if anyone had any funny looks, stories, or reactions from friends or family when the topic is first brought up. I know my fiance gave me the ever familiar, "Are you serious, is this like the time you were gonna build a helicopter" look! My dad told me I had been watching to many movies when I first mentioned it, but he's starting to realize it may not be a bad idea to be prepared. They live about 15min from the Oak Ridge "nucular" bomb. Carry on! |

| Banned | Yeah, my wife gave me the same look. When the Bird Flue started to take off I got into wanting to stock up a little water, some canned goods, and some ammo. At first she said I was crazy, but then after some special on NBC or something, she realized I wasn't. The way I look at it, I'd rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it. |

| Moderator ![]() | For a sportsman to buy anything in any bulk immediately leads to comments from those not 'into' it. When I buy six boxes of .223 Rem and two 550-round boxes of .22LR, the clerk thinks I'm "stocking up for war". I tell her, "No, this'll do for the weekend." Buy four 12-packs of Ramen Noodles, they wonder - unless it's just after a nearby hurricane. They will accept it for their short 'attention span' time when the Media is playing up weather problems. Usually, I spread my supplies buying among regular shopping trips, rather than stocking up on major survival stuff all at once. No reason to let the Sheeple know I'm preparing. I won't have enough to share with those not smart enough to stock up for themselves. They won't try to take what they don't know about! ![]()

| Senior Member | I get some looks at work. My wife loves to talk and discussed my order of 1000 rounds of ammo and 2 cases of MRE's that came via fedex the week before the party. Everyone at work asked that I warn them the morning before I go postal so that they can go home before it happens. Good lord that woman makes me mad sometimes! Anyways, whenever we go to chinamart and we spend more than $100, I get a brick of .22LR ammo. The guys behind the counter have asked me about my ammo buying habits and I just reply that I shoot a brick every Thursday as I am a member of the local target shooting association - if that doesn't work, I swithc over to Afrikaans and pretend I don't speak English All .223, 7.62x54, 9mm and .380 ammo is order from the web. |

| Senior Member | hehehehe I see we have another connoisseur amongst us. Love that stuff, it's a shame it costs $15 a pack here! Are you from the dark continent as well, or familiar with it? Quote:
