I don't think I'd want to carry two long guns with me and I'd want something that could go a long time without cleaning. I'd go with a Rem 870 12 gauge with both a smooth bore and slug barrel, because with that you could take small game and reach out over 100 yards with the right slugs. And for a side arm I'd take a 44mag red hawk.

I think I'd take my shotgun, a 9mm pistol or .357 revolver, and a bow.
You can make your own arrows if need be.

List of what the family would be carring:
Younger Brother: Probally a 20 gauge 870 and .22 revolver with a few hundred rounds for each
Baby Brother:Maybe some ammo(not much)
Me(oldest child): my .30-06 or 12guage and a .45 Colt revolver and ammo
Dad: His .30-06 or one of his Shotguns, 9mm and ammo
Mom: Her 12 guage and her .22 and ammo

If someone loses or misplaces their ammo: 20 vs 12 gauge, 9mm vs 45 Colt, thier firearm can still be used

if we are talking a SHTF scenario, I'd go with a gun and mags common to LE/Mil...
the Beretta 92.
for a carbine, same thought process, 5.56, AK ammo or the Kel-tec Sub 2000 that uses the same maggies as the Beretta 92.
The Sub 2000 is foldable too, able to be concealed under a parka in the cold, or back-pack in warmer weather. Ammo and mags are interchangeable with my 92 pistol choice, and although the reach of the little Kel-tec carbine is easily 100 yards, I'd use it only to 50. |

So many different ideas for SHTF firearms. Interesting though. Very interesting. There doesn't seem to be a wrong answer as everybody can justify what they'll be lugging around in the woods.
If I were to have to bug out I think that I would take...
An AR-15/M-4 type scoped rifle or carbine for distance and to let me carry more ammo. I would want either a Glock pistol or a Sig Sauer pistol for my defensive handgun. I would probably want a scoped .22LR pistol with a 6 inch barrel and a brick of ammo to bring in small game and for very accurate shooting. I would want a sheath knife, a pocketknife or multi-tool and a hammer, a hatchet or machete. Some string or 550 paracord would be nice along with a tarp to make a shelter. I would want stuff to start fires with to cook my food, boil water and stay warm.

Rem 20 guage, SW40VE .40 cal, 30-06, and I'd take a .22 lr pistol with high capacity. Thats the best combo I can see. Covers all needs from defense to hunting.

Psh.
I'd bring my Mosin Nagant 91/30.
=P The very sound of it would scare off anything! I don't even need to hit my target with a boom that big! xD
And...
>.> It's the only working gun I have besides my Marlin .22 and the SKS that's being weird.

| Ruger single 6
I did some swaping for a rusty 3 screw Ruger single 6 with a 5.5 " Bbl I oil'd it some and used a rag to clean it up some and proceded to shoot it
"was pretty accurate too", I shot about 4 boxes thru it before looking closer I found it was a .22 Mag stamped on the cylinder!
I guess a fella could shoot .22Lr in .22Mag
Ive try'd it on my Savage single shot rifle and works in a pinch "took a ptarmigan"
I figure it would be neat to know someone had done this already.
I traded it off for a Tarus .22Mag DA in "sweet" stainless and have prcceded to shoot the hell outta it with no problems yet for the last 3 years.
The old reliable 3/4" rebar club and some fist size rocks work ok too, the only ones you can pick up and reuse!
