Road trip

Last night I watched the first half of the newer Hills have Eyes movie, and I suddenly realized I never really carried a weapon in the car with me. About once a year we take a long trip(400+ miles from home), and I've never taken a gun along. Now, at least, I stick my USP .40 with an extra mag in the car, but thats it, I need more. I'm thinking of buying a '01+ Crown Vic to replace my '95 T-Bird, and it would be perfect for a nice box in the trunk to store my AR in . So, what do you all take with you? We all know theres a chance of getting stranded somewhere along the way. Now their may not be radioactive zombie people coming after you, but one never knows what might be out there.

A pump-action tactical shotgun with a pistol grip is best for this application. You shoudn't need to worry about targets far off, only those who are stuck on confronting you, in range of a shotgun.

Every year, my lady and I go to Oceanside, CA. I take my Ruger 9mm, but I leave the hi-cap mags behind. This next summer we want to go to Montery Bay, next to SanFran, but all guns are ilegal there, so I have to be careful because I would rather take the chance of bringing the gun and not need it then not bring the gun and need it. I just get nervous when I leave my piece in the car and go to the beach all day.

I think the perfect road trip rifle is a Mossberg 12ga 8 shot.

Be sure you know state laws about carrying firearms in a car. The fed law saying you can take anything as long as it's legal in the destination and origin state only applies if it's locked up and away from ammo.

found this and think we should revitalize it....

for long trips:
basic tool kit, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers....
road side emergency kit (bought at walmart)
extra oil and tran. fluid
water to drink
jumper cables
my urban b-o-b
.45 with extra clip

if im going out alone on a long trip i will also carry my mossberg and a 25 round shell belt. its just a nice thing to bring just in case... so it will probly start going everywhere with me now... sign of the times...

Daughter and I made 8 state 4,000 mile road trip in June and I had my .45ACP and she had her .380 all within easy reach. I had 3 varmint caliber rifles and a 12ga riot gun behind the seat. The rifles were unloaded and cased but the 12ga is in a tactical scabbard with a buttstock sleeve of rounds ready to go.I would say we were adequatley armed.

I carry my Taurus 1911 .45 in my truck everywhere I go I tuck it right between my driver seat and the center console area.

Wife keeps a Taurus 1911 in her center console.

IN my bedroom nightstand I keep a Glock 10mm with night sights. If that dosent stop the baddies I got a 870 with 7rds of buckshot in my closet.

I also have various loaded revolvers throughout the house in case of a sudden attack. I have them all hid in easy to access locations.

I sleep like a baby.

I carry my beretta in my jeep, and whatever I happen to be concealing that day.

Mossberg used to make a 12 guage pump called The Defender that had I think a 8 or 10 shot magazine. Wicked looking gun. It was an all black Model 500 with pistol grip and short barrel.
