| Senior Member | It'd be a toss-up between my 870 and my .454. I've got specialty shells for my 870 that can just about handle anyting I could ever get into, but my .454 can handle any living thing I would come across out there. Plus, it's plenty accurate (and powerful) at 200+ yards, if needed.

Now THAT would be a nice combo. The .22 colibri's are great for birds and such. That's what I would take. a M6 (?) in .45LC/.22 with a brick of .22 and 5 rounds 45lc/10round bird shot 410. Unless a person acts stupid and stumbles around the bush, you should be safe from bears. | |

| Senior Member | To tell you the truth, I would have no need of a gun. Give me a bow, some arrows and a Ka-bar and I will fair just fine......I think.... Last edited by Cr@ckSH0t; 04-05-2007 at 01:06 PM. |

| Senior Member | I would take me trusty Colt Woodsman, it may not be able to take down a bear, but it'll take down wolves, rabbits, and raccoons. My second choice would be my Uncle's over and under 12 gauge w/ slug ammo. That could take down a bear... |

| Member | Assuming, of course, that my faithful sidekick Rocky the Rottweiler/Dane mix is already out of commission, I'm going to say that I'll take my 870 ANY day. Back that with my new XD .45 ACP compact. Last edited by Scot Van; 04-09-2007 at 02:45 PM. Reason: spelling error |

| Member | ok what i see from most of you is intelligence but i gotta know 1 thing Mooseman why in the heck would you shoot 150 yards at a squirrel after all the object is to survive and if you shoot a squirrel with a 30-06 you will not be eating it and as for the large game preservation issue before they had refrigerators large quantities of meat were perserved by a process called smoking and i think that many of you would be innovative enuff to get that done and as for mister bear a 12 guage will do him in to then you will have more meat to perserve as for my own personal id take my bow probably the compound but if i decided to take the recurve id simply try very hard to give mister bear his space which might not be a bad idea no matter what your choice of weapon but i really enjoy hunting with my recurveand if you follow the 1 shot 1 kill theory id even consider my cva 50 cal w/ reddot scope shoot straight and god bless Last edited by ICE-MAN; 04-11-2007 at 06:30 PM. |

| Senior Member | I'm Johnny come lately but I've been in the woods several times and can't say I've ever been bothered by a bear or any other wild animal. That said and since the topic says just "one gun" I'd go with my Ruger 10/22 S/S with folding stock. I can hunt plenty of squirrel and rabbit and with the 50 round clips it will discourage even a bear, if one decided to evict me from his forest. |

Even without salt in a survival situation, dry smoking thin strips of meat over a fire will give you protein that you can carry a lot of to go with roots and berries and grasses that you can eat as you find, and thus you can survive. Rich Oh, and I can carry more Cartridges than you can carry Arrows!!!

| Registered User | I would take along my Ruger 10/22. Not going to see any griz. If i did they wouldnt bother me. A .22 if fine for grouse, squirrels, rabbits etc. i've had many times i could have taken deer or moose with a .22 if I'd cared to shoot. |

| Senior Member | Ruger Redhawk .44 with simmons 2/6x32 scope my first day at the range, sighting the scope, within 10 shots i realized the comfort afforded me with this gun. i would take all 240 grain magnum shells and aim according to purpose. if 6 shots doesn't kill an aggressive target, i'll bet it slows down enough for you to reload. |
