12 ga. pump. Slugs on down. A lot of good a scoped rifle is going to do you guys who keep talking about a head shot on a grizzly when he charges out of the brush from 30 feet or less away. That's ok if your hunting bear but not if your just trying not to be killed by a bear. Unless he stops and poses for the shot, your in a world of hurt.

Probably a 870 in 3-1/2 inch mag. How effective would slugs be on a charging bear?

But I'd go with AK-47. You can't break it. Heck. I don't even think you could if you wanted to. =] | |

I would probably choose a .44 magnum revolver. My first choice would be a stainless Super Blackhawk with short barrell and Pachys. Thing is I sold mine when money was tight between jobs.... Today, I might take my Taurus model 44 with long tube. I have a bandeloro type rig that I woud stuff with 240 jacketed soft points and other hunting loads and I would want some 240 grain hollow points for downing deer as well as snake shot loads for reptiles and small game. To my way of thinking there is no more versatile weapon than a good .44 magnum wheelgun. It can do just about everything in a pitch. |

problem with big animals are they would get hunted out first leaving small game requireing more finess, besides a fella wouldent want to hunt out all the Deer & hogs keep them as a rainy day fund in case of really needed, this leaves little varmits and requires less fire power or non at all, so the only real reason for a firearm would be defence against other human encroachment on your food supply.

Bolt action .22 lr would be my choice if forced into the wild. I could survive with that... Ammo is light to carry ... All the big cal. stuff would be left behind because of the ammo weight sorry to say.. Or you could try to lug all that heavy ammo plus your needed survival gear.... Don't think you would last long...

i just read though al the posts and the guy that said he was gonna carry 1500 .308 rounds cracked me up, that is about 150 pounds and that isn't including the magazines. plus the gun which is bare minimum say 6 pounds. and if you think you can survive without anything else except a gun that also was funny. oh well, someone mentioned how much does someone else think that same weight in shotgun shells is? well it is about twice if it is 12 gauge and id on't know if slugs weigh more than shot but still. it is actually quite funny
