One of the other areas I've been trying to learn more about and be better prepared in is communication capability. If there are any radio stations and communication towers still in operation, how will we communicate with each other? Some friends of mine have taken extra steps to buy equipment and get training to be amateur radio operators: ARRLWeb: ARRL Home Page We've also got mobile AM/FM radios, rechargeable batteries, and charging units that can recycle batteries quickly using a small generator. ------------------ I agree that there's supportive strength and increased capability in a group...

Update on communications capability, for emergency use if we happen to be on our own or in a group... We're trying to have more than just AM/FM radios and GRMS/FRS 2-way radios. We're finally following encouragement of friends and getting Ham radios. My wife and I are signed up with a local ham radio club to take classes and get our technician licenses. Classes start on 26 Jan for three Saturdays and then we test on the fourth Saturday. With the added ham radio communications capability, we'll then be able to establish and retain communicate with other groups, be more informed with what's going on around us, near and far, help support each other and share supplies, equipment and skills with each other. We anticipate the ham radio will help give us access to increased knowledge, strength and capability...another tool to help create and sustain a good support network to be a part of. Also, I'll have the ability to communicate with my wife at home while I'm away at work, even if/when other communication systems fail.

It's tough to say who i would choose. I recently bought a house near town "subdivision life eww for country boy" My family has a awesome place to go to if things were to go down bad, and i honestly would have to at least offer to my neighbors to come join us. All my neighbors are really nice good people, two are millitary and i'm sure they would be an asset. Of course all my family would be together. None of my family believes there is going to be some break down of society, but i'm positive they could all deal with whatever was thrown at them. I live in south MS, and all we have to do is worry about putting food on the table, between deer, squirrels, and fish we would have plenty of meat. My aunt and uncle have a garden every year so veggies would be covered. If i had one person to choose it would be my fiance of course. She's tough as nails, is as good of a shot as i am with a rifle, and is getting better at shooting pistols every time we go shoot, and not to mention when the end of the world is near i don't want to have to be looking for some nookie if you know what i mean. ![]() Quote:
My fiance's parents are ham heads. Would the repeater towers still be operable if shtf. My fiance actually has one in her Honda Accord "It was her moms car" Last edited by Big Tool; 01-15-2008 at 11:56 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost | |

it would appear that a group would have a better chance If they could come together as a group,my first worry would be internal fighting????who would have the discipline to work as a team like it or not some one would have to be in charge!!

Well i figure we'd have better chances with a group maybe like six people? That way we could split up to gather supplies and if need be fight together. Yeah like mym said with the number comes the risk of fighting within the group and i dont like the chances of 5 to 1 in a fight espescially if i'm the 1
