SHTF Go it alone or with a group.

If yo are bugging in you going it alone or do you have a group of folks arranged to hold up with you? If so how many people you figure it will take.

Small group would be the most wise.

3-5 people you can trust.

1. Can take shifts to stand gaurd for the others
2. Mobility is greater
3. Group hostility is less
4. Food/Water consuption is less

I dunno if I'd take a group, but my family is pretty big. My dad, brother and sisters. I'd probably have to take along my girlfriend and her family but if I could avoid the fam I'd be much happier, not the survivor types.

Think we'd restrict it to the missus and I, what friends we do have aren't prepared to deal with anything more devastating than a short term power outage

I have two separate groups depending on whether I'm holding up in the house or holding up at work.

For the house I have a group that consist mostly of members of the church I attend. We have a Vet, two nurses, an auto mechanic, a home ec teacher, a girl scout leader/accountant, two security guards and of course my wife and I. Every one here has at least one weapon that fires 7.62x39 and also a 9mm, any other weapon they choose they must supply the ammo. Personally I carry a GLOCK .45 and the wife likes her CZ52. Each couple also has at least 6 months worth of food, it was 3 months but we just increased it about a month ago. Bottled water is kept for one month after that we use our Katadyne filters on the canal in the back of the house. This is also my travelling group in case we have to bug out, each couple has at least one 4x4 vehicle, we didn't make that mandatory it just worked out that way.

My bug in at work group consist of my 12 guards and their families. Weapons are all issued plus whatever they bring from home. We have a food supply of MRE's for roughly 4 months and water for about the same duration, afterwords we would use the water filters on the wells that are on the premises. Others that work here may show up which could put a strain on the food if it's for a long duration but we have plans for these situations if it occurs. This doesn't take into account if we can bring our food supply from our homes.

For security I'm not worried all of my guards are qualified experts and many have been in combat. We have enough fuel for close to a month, more if we conserve energy. Entering unnoticed isn't a very likely situation.

I don't really see a likely scenario where we have to hold up here a long duration. We have had times when we've brought in family members after a hurricane but that's been it.

If the balloon went up tonight - I'm a "Lone Wolf".
I have a work buddy who shoots, reloads and collects guns like I do. I'm slowly working on him and his wife to build a small tight-knit survival group.
Family are all sheeple - no help there.
Problem is my buddy and I live about 20 miles apart. Both in Lower Sloburbia.

I know of only one person who is more heavily armed than I who lives out in the country. If I could reach him I would try to. Other than that I'm hitting parents and holding out there. I have one other family I would trust to hold out with, but they are not gun owners and I am not sure they would have the muster to do what might be necessary for survival. But I do trust them not to try to take from me.

If I have a day or two and can travel on the road I have a friend who has 30+ acres in Kentucky but that is 500 miles away. It wouldn't happen on foot with my wife and two boys (2 and 6).

I'm looking at property down here now. Thinking ~ 20 acres out in the woods but not looking forward to a hour drive to work every day. I know an hour isn't much to many people but I am used to 15 minutes. It would take some getting used to. I should be able to do 20 acres with a house and have it paid off but am torn. I like where I am now (Panama City Beach) but no way to stay safe if SHTF. Too many ways into the subdivision. But being out in the woods alone may not be much better.

I would welcome my brother, sister and there spouses because the men folk are excellent outdoorsmen and sportsmen.
We would atleast have plenty of game to eat between all of us hunting and we have artesian wells on our property for water...A.H

I'm actually a bit surprised at how many of you would go lone wolf. I didn't think my group was very large until I saw all of your replies. I personally don't have anywhere near enough skills to try and go alone. Even with my Wife, who's very diverse, we still don't have enough of the essential skills that would be required. How many of you have medical training or have someone with you that could treat you? Think of all the skills it would take to not just survive but to live. I'm not trying to change your minds but I do think you should think the whole process through. Even if the other members can't shoot, so what, it takes a day to show someone how to properly shoot, they don't need to be snipers.
Of my two groups, I'd rather have my Home team rather than my Work team. The Home team has a wide field of skills covered even though most of them are only fair shooters. My work team are all expert shots but most of us have the same skills, not allot of diversity. The more skills in your group the better suited you'll be for any situation that may occur.
I could be completely wrong and lone wolfing it might be the way to go but I'd rather have my friend's and family with me.

As far as I know right now, I'll be lone wolfing it when it hits the fan. That's not my choice but sometimes you don't get what you want. I have broached the subject to family(neices & nephews) without much feedback. They don't seem to want to deal with the possibility.
If I could find a small group that I could trust I would much prefer having backup but I will go it alone for as long as I can and go down kicking & spitting.

Well, it's my wife's Jeep, and it has a good deal of the survival supplies in it, but I'm the better shot (so far) and grew up in the desert here, so it's a team effort. She's no slouch, though, and she's been offroading a lot more lately and hitting the tougher trails. Depending on the situation, we'd head towards Nellis AFB, or cross the border into CA heading for more moderate climate.

Might take a few others along. Have a friend who's a CO at a penitentiary here. Gun nut, tough guy, But the group would stay small so it'd be mobile and easy to supply.

ill be lone wolf till i get where i gotta go. and even then theres only a few. Small groups are easy to move wuick and if you go through all the routes and think about it you can lone wolf it safely and sucessfully. If your moving here is the key, MOVE NOW don't wait for things to get bad when they start going downhill get to where you need to be. by the time the roadblocks are up your stuck, or your moving low key on foot. I can be out the door on the road in thirty minutes if im home, an hour if i'm not. Have a Plan

mos19k, I am a certified first responder, a retired Navy Certified High Risk Core Instructor, Survival School graduate (Both military and civilian), certified Rifle and Pistol expert marksman and half nutz gardener, hunter, fisherman, have extensive training in electrics, hydraulics, pneumatics, water fire supression systems, explosives (both commercial and improvised) Certified PR24, ASP. I can weld (though mine ain't as pretty as my Dads), have basic carpentry, plumbing and sanitary systems skills, possess a heavy machinery operators card, am considered an exceptional cook and I can identify most things edible and toxic from our local flora and fauna. So other than the woman I Love and our lil spot of Texas. Who else do we need?
Not bragging guys just stating facts, I really don't want a group to be responsible for other than those I already have especially if they haven't even so much as packed away spare batteries for the flashlights in case the power goes out.
