I did a little research on the zombie knockdown problem. It turns out that all of our usual scales for bullet effectiveness are not applicable for zombies because they are not dependent on a central nervous system and do not bleed or feel pain. Stopping a zombie is dependent entirely on actual physical damage. This lack of dependence on a central nervous system is very strange. It appears that the zombie brain can communicate with the rest of it's body despite massive spinal damage. A shotgun blast at close range entirely severing the spine will not stop it's advance. The head must be entirely severed to do the trick. Luckily, zombies in an advanced stage of decomposition, (the most dangerous) are easy to dismember or decapitate.

Then it would seem that a 22-250, 220 Swift or 204 Ruger would be the ticket to make the head explode.

Johnnycat,
There has been insufficient research to determine if that is a satisfactory solution but I tend to think you are correct. One problem is that zombies are all in a state of decomposition and so what works on an old one may not work on a fresh one or vice versa.

They also still rely on the muscular skeletal system to move. If you destroy their tendons they will lose function of it. Undead or alive the skeletal muscular system still functions the same way. If you destroy their rotator cuff they will lose certain functions of their arm.

Of course the only way to end a zombie is to destroy the brain.

Good man, you have the basics down, now all you have to do to survive the Zombie Apocolypse is purchase Max Brooks' survival book and apply the teachings.

I've had that book for several years already. Its a good read, and I agree with most of it. Also, the biggest threat will be the living in a zombie apocalypse, not the undead. The living can not be trusted at all.

Bladed weapons are almost pointless as well. If you get into hand to hand combat (which you should never unless its a last ditch effort) use blunt objects to crush and destroy the zombie. Smash its skull and damage the brain.

Well, I know who to trust if I'm in "misery" during the Zombie Apocolypse.

My friends and I have mapped out our escape routes in case of an undead uprising. It is almost like a hobby of mine.
