IMO the .22 is the best round. It won't really have any trouble entering the skull (especially the higher end rounds), is exceptionally light / small so you can carry many rounds, and is probably the most widely available round. Also, it is the quietest meaning you will attract less attention (both zombie and human) with your gunfire.

9mm at the largest.

And I agree that the "living" will pose just as great a threat.

Well considering you have to worry about both zombies and the uninfected, a know a lot of you all wouldn't take a 9mm for defense and would choose the .45ACP.

Since you cant take everything with you if u have to hoof it, what would you take?

I still gotta stick with 9mm. You can carry a bunch it has enough power to take down a living breathing human, and plenty of power to blast the undead. It is widely available, most 9mm magazines hold 15 rounds (mine does), ammo is fairly accurate, and pretty easy to shoot.

A silencer would be a plus

its a 'what would u do' fantasy, along the same likes as 'what would u do if u won the lotto?', nobody actually expects it to happen but its fun to think about it. u get to shoot ur guns in the streets at moving targets and be the hero. u also get to kill people without the moral weight of taking a life, since they are already dead. plus u can pretty much disregard all laws, steal stuff, break into places and drive recklessly.no more cops, no more jobs, no more bill collectors, etc

also, i think its easier to use the zombie scenario for a 'use my guns/be a hero' fantasy because it is so impossible. nobody wants to fantasize about war/invasion/bombings/nuclear winter or the true utter distruction of ones home and country.

and yes, im a big zombie fan too. funny thing is i thought it was just me. i never thought the gun crowd would be so into zombies untill i got a gun and started surfing the forums. the other sites have banned zombie threads, which is why after reading thru this site for months i had to finally register and give my 2 cents

do i believe in zombies? um, no, i dont believe the dead will come back to life. i do however think something like the rage virus from 28 days/weeks later could happen. i also believe that natural disasters, civil unrest and warfare can happen too. so i keep some guns and some ammo put away just incase the worst case scenario becomes reality. and if im wrong and one day the dead do rise, i might be surprised, but ill be ready

remember, ya gotta hit em in tha head. and if that dont work then kneecap 'em and run away...

Back in the old days, down in Haiti the Hungen would tell some sucker he was gonna cast a spell on him and make him a zombie.
When nobody was around to see it, the Hungen would expose the person to a form of poison that put them into a near death type state of trance. Scratches from rings, blowguns, etc. were how they poisoned their victims.

Everybody would think the guy was dead and he would be buried.
Later the hungen would have flunkies dig the "Dead" man up and he would revivive him (or her) with an antidote, and basically brain wash them into thinking they were still dead and that if they wanted their soul back they had to do what the Hungen said.
The hungen then sold these poor suckers into virtual slavery.
Many plantations were filled with these "Zuvembies" or "Zombies" as they were later known.
The tradition got exposed in the 1950s, if I remember right and the government started cracking down on it as it was basically a form of slavery.
You have to remember you were dealing with very superstitious and illiterate people. These poor shmucks were sometimes brain damaged by the poisoning too, so they beleived what the Hungen told them.

This is where the concept comes from.
Our modern idea of horror movie Zombies comes from George Romero's Night of the Living Dead movies.

Wait till you hear about where the term "Wake" came from.....
Back in ye days of olde in England and Europe, medical science was not an exact art. In plague times or times of illness sometimes people would lapse into comas where they had shallow breath and were beleived to be dead.
When they were buried, they sometimes got better and had to dig their way out of their own graves.
In time, this was figured out, so to avoid burying somebody alive, they would have a "Wake" where eveyrbody sat around with the presumed corpse to see if he or he would "Wake" up....

As for the reality of zombies today, it just depends.
Its possible that some day somebody working in a biological warfare lab could come up with an infectious virus like seen in movies like 28 days later.
ANd don't forget drug zombies...
A few years ago, I was working with some community activists who were trying to clean up a part of the county known as "Crack Alley.'
There were crack hos staggering around who literally looked like the zombies in those living dead movies. There hair was long and snaky and as greazy as if it had motor oil in it. Their skin was caked with dirty and scales from dead hide. Their teeth were rotted out and they stank so bad, you could smell them from 9 feet away.
The decent poor folks who lived there referred to them as "the zombies" because thats what they looked and smelled and acted like. They staggered round, turning tricks for $2-$10 and tried to get a score for crack or meth.

Yep-Zombies are Real. Nope, they ain't re-animated dead folks.

The "zombie drug" is a mixture of psychotropic compounds from various sources, including scopolamine and puffer fish toxins. I has to be re-administered from time to time and does permanant brain damage.

Zombies are.were usually used a slave labor in Haiti. "Papa Doc" Duvalier and his thugs also used the the mixture to eliminate political enemies and to engender terror.

Also--When I walk around the Bardstown Road area of Louisville, and look at all the "cool folks", I rrealize that there are more than one kind of Zombie... .

For all of the advantages of the .22 If they are running zombies Im going to want a round with knock down power. Trying to nail a headshot on a running zombie while you yourself might be on the move might not be all to easy and if you have something bigger you might at least be able to knock it down giving you time to get away.

Arctic Zombie sighting just last night!

I actually saw four them staggering and drooling and one had sh*t itself
two were stopping traffic and and one was lurching after a teenage girl kind sobering when even the cops sped on thru the intersection and dident even slow down to take care of those alley vulchers. sad part is they eventually sober up into people for a little while then back into being drunken zombies.
