sixth sense

WE'uns that have chased the coon have experienced the night

Long story made short.
My son 10yrs old, first extended overnight outing with me, and a couple of coon hunters on 46,000 thousand acre tree farm, near the coast.
Dogs and hunters moved off to the east, my son and I stayed with the truck; Crisp, 11.30pm; son give out but wanted to stay up.

I heard some heavy and I mean heavy walking between me and the hunters approx 25yds moving parallel; first thought a bear and me with a .22 Mohawk rifle. Not good. Placed my son into truck laying in the floor to take a nap.
Me saying bad words cause I didn't want son nor my partners being eat.
Under most circumstances I'd have positioned myself to see what ever the creature could be.
Not now. To many bad thing could go wrong.
Next morning we went and checked. 35yds+- in front of our parked trucks we found tracks of a bear bigger than the biggest hand we had.

Having had the opportunity to traipse about all night long; the night is a beautiful thing; with all the gremlins.

Talking

In 1942-45, when I was between the ages of 4-6, our house had an outdoors toilet only. I can still remember having to walk out there about 80 ft in total darkness and being in the two holer. Spiders hung from the ceilings, demons lived below the holes(ha), and my imagination ran wild.YEOW!
