| SHTF Network? With the political climate as it is should there be such a group? And if so what would be the best way to organize it? We are currently facing what looks to be one of the darkest times in U.S. history. I am under the impression that this might be a wise idea. What are your thoughts?

| I agree, problem is, keeping it only to those who truly are part of it. Know what I mean? How could we guarantee that it wouldn't be used against us, or the info in it couldn't be altered or whatever. Definitely have to go back to the old school way of doing things. No more internet or the like. Won't be any good anyhow. I'm no expert on the matter. But too many people would only think of themselves. There would always be little certain groups, just like in high school or as I've seen in church. Again, know what I mean. I do agree, something is coming. And it isn't going to be a good thing either.

| make a social network of people in your area it will be small but its better than nothing. If you survive you will meet others who did the same thing and your group will get bigger. |

| I agree with meatloaf. Its probably best to keep such networks just among people who live near you like neighbors and of course family. My neighbor is also my close friend and our families definetly would watch each others back in a SHTF situation. Of course if your SHTF plan includes bugging out instead of staying put then you would have to modify your network appropriately.

| A small local support group is probably your best bet. I formed one of my groups from my Church, the other group is mostly folks I work with. Each group serves a different function and would come into play under different scenarios. the key is to find folks you can trust and you can get along with under stressful situations. |

Once you've felt how receptive the group might be to other scenarios you slowly introduce them. You can't just come out and say, "Hey, guys let's go get ready for the end of the world", everyone will run away and label you a kook. Discuss what's happening around the world, there's enough going on to support the need for group formation. Always keep at your core the fact that you are there to help each other in times of need. I would suggest to make your group as skillfully diverse as you can. You never know which skills will be needed.

| Find some people around you that feel the same way. And if your thinking about accepting people into your group heres something. If its the beginnig dump them if its after a month or 2 since the SHTF I think they proved they can help you survive. |

| Get friends who are interested in such a network, near and abroad and make a few plans with a contingency plan for each. Don't freely give your trust to those you don't know.

| My problem is that where I live, there is an overwhelming percentage of Ostriches. You know the folks I mean; the ones who metaphorically stick their heads in the sand and think they're concealed because they can't see anything. I've tried to educate people. But even among my friends, only one or two got the message and are doing something about it. The rest simply humor me. Even at the gun club, the members seem to think that just because they have firearms they will be okay. And of those who believe in preparing for something we all devoutly hope will never come to pass, none live anywhere close. It's bad enough that I actually have a contingency plan that involves stealing a coastwise-capable boat, sailing it to North Carolina and up a river as close as I can get to friends of mine who are also planners with useful skills, and then striking out overland to reach them. And that's a helluva note, ain't it? |

| For every person I personally talk to who doesn't seem interested in preparation, I buy a 20-rnd box of ammo. $8.00 for a box, not bad. I'm trying to stockpile food & fuel, but it isn't always easy.

| If ya start stokpiling ammo for agroup you'd need to be leery. All it would take is one anti (idot) to claim that you were some kinda malitia. Here's another thought orginized camping trip. Great place to learn, and teach some woodcraft.

Dark times? Sure we're in a slump, but we're not facing "one of the darkest times in U.S. history." Anyway, we should be prepared, not so much for SHTF, as much as real disasters which are only a weather system away from most parts of the U.S. Last edited by perdidochas; 03-26-2008 at 03:06 PM.
