| Emergency Bag Items This is the contents of my emergency kit. It's never far away. You will note that I like the "modular" approach. All goes into a simple Molle style pack: DSC08201.JPG Basic Kit: Believe it or not, everything fits into the jar except the item in the upper left - a 7' x 9' tarp in baggy. All this fits into the canvas bag which has bot belt loops and Alice clips. DSC08204.JPG Then there's the food module: Since this bag lives in the car and is subject to heat and cold, food is a problem. I settled on the following as durable enough to be good when it is needed. Life boat rations for one person for three days. A baggie containing tea, bullion and coffee. An accessory packet from an MRE. A spoon. DSC08203.JPG First Aid Kit: DSC08207.JPG Hygene: DSC08202.JPG Other: Nylon poncho, Maglite (converted to LED), Cold Steel Mini Bushman, Swiss Army Knife - "Super Tinker", sun goggles, hair brush. DSC08206.JPG Oh, I forgot about the binocs. just a low end compact bino in case with strap. This weighs about 15 lbs, including a datimer. I consider this a bag intended to get me by for five days or so until I either walk to where I need to be or they send S & R to find me. It is not intended to be a full scale bugout bag or battle pack. Having said that (remember "modular"?), this would work quite well to expand to a bigger pack and add more gear. Since my world is such that, since I work on a Federal facility, I cannot include firearms or a more weaponish knife. This would be my immediate upgrade to for a big knife: DSC08199.JPG and I would add these firearms (that I already own): Winchester 94 30-30 OR Remington 700 .308 (pseudo scout version) + 75 Rounds Henry Survival and 100 Stingers Springfield 1911A1 + 60 rounds and for anything long term i would add a sleeping bag and ground pad. I am a little undecided about the rifle. I save almost 3 pounds by going with the Winchester but at a loss of performance. |

| Very nice. Nice to see a balance between things you actually need and gun/ammo. I would probably vote the 30-30 over the .308. The lever gun will kill just about anything in NA, if you want to stretch out and touch something try hornady's leverloution bullets. They are pretty good stuff. |
