Y2K?
Yep, prepared for that.
Still got everything. Small long bucket with a flapper bottom for dipping water from the well. 6kw generator that has never been started (pull the rope twice a month to keep everything free). We still rotate our massive canned goods stock.
Did you store up any MREs? Check them out. Most of them are bad now.

KM45, I wish I had a simple answer to your problem but I don't. There is still prejudice and fear. It's a long way from Atlanta to Oklahoma but I would be proud to have you and your family as neighbors. However, in a bad SHTF situation we are only 35 miles from Oklahoma City and would probably have to move north to prevent being overrun by people leaving OKC.
I like the way you think and your desire to protect your family. We need folks like you. Hope you find a safe place.

The SHTF hasn't fully happened yet, and we're already being overrun by Californians, and other outsiders, in this area...

You can tell people have had enough of the city life, and I don't hardly blame them...just so long as they don't get too thick around here.

From what I read and see in the news, a lot more good people will be leaving California.
It looks like that state is slipping away from America a little more each day.

Good thinking KM45. Alot of people dont worry about things like that but I live about 45 miles north of Austin, TX, and in the 3-5 weeks after hurricane katrina it was spooky to realize how ill prepared we are for things like that. I mean Im in central tx, a good 600 miles from New Orleans, and the gas station down the road was out of gas. There was no bottled water left to be had at Wal-Mart. People from La and SO. Tx were stranded on I-35 with their families because there wasn't any gas. Scary Sh_t, bro.

Sh*t, the PNW is being overrun by more than Californians. This area is being overrun by liberal democrats and is controlled by the likes of Miss Numbnuts Gregoire, Ron Sh*t-for-brains Sims, and that frickin' moron who calls himself the mayor of Seattle, Nichols.
The great PNW, where military and republican votes are not counted and not allowed to be counted; where democrats cry and whine if they don't get their way or win, and where the state supreme court caters to the state government instead of the will of the people, regardless. It has always amazed me that when a Republican or conservative candidate is ahead, King county always seems to come up with several thousand ballots that had been overlooked and were just found.
Dino Rossi won the Governor election and then two subsequent recounts called for by the dumocrat party (and Gregoire) but on a third recount Gregoire claimed the election; 3 out of 4 doesn't seem to amount to much with PNW dumos.
We are represented by Jim "Oh, I forgot the words" McDermott, Norm "Gee it's election time again" Dicks, and Patty "Look at me, I'm a senator" Murray...what a trio of losers. The worst part is they keep getting re-elected!
Sorry...got carried away...I get ticked when some infers that the PNW is a great place to be.

KM45, it really sounds like you got your head on straight. It also sounds like you'd get right along most anywhere you'd move to. Where-ever you choose, good luck...who knows, maybe someday we really will be neighbors. I still say, loose the dreads...I just had to say that for the fun of it. I know how to plant things...just have a hard time getting it to grow.

Let me know if "the long emergency" is any good. thanks. I am also in the same boat. Everyone (family and most friends)looks at me funny if I ever start to say, Things are going to happen. Like im crazay. All the signs are there. I personally think some rouge sect will employ one or some, of these dirty bombs or somthing bigger.I do have a few friends that if possible we will unite. The problem is, IF shtf, all the people I know will come beating on my door. Looking for assistance.Guns, amo, etc.

Just like the days of Noah so shall be the last days. They laughed at him for 120 yrs before the rains came. Some day to our dismay we may have to watch others go by the way. When the door closes, the lamentations begin. Be thankful you prepared. Most have, 90% have not. We will be the front lines for existence. Concentrate on that. Get a storage unit or some place to stock up. They need to wake up. Some will not.

They can not wake up or be awakened, they are in a slumber.

Lee, I enjoy your posts and find your thinking and mine in close agreement. You and some others here are the type of folks I would like to be around in a SHTF situation but distance may preclude this. Best of luck to you and yours.

Everyone can feel that something is going to happen. I am not chicken little saying the sky is falling. We are all going to need to be better prepared to protect our families and property. I am afraid the gangs of idiots are going to take alot of sheeples out to get to survive.
I am going to protect my family.
Mike

I don't have anything stored up. I just keep stocked up. I try to buy twice what I need of everything. I have the same kinda food and supplies I use every day. The only thing I started doing recently is vegetable ranching. It's been a while but this Fall I'll have a onion patch and a vegetable plot.I don't grow anything I won't eat.
For all of ya'll who plan on relocating, spend some time where you think you'd like to move to. Frequent the local Dinner, go to church, meet people. Ask around about places for sale. The more they know you the better OR you'll learn that you need to look elsewhere.

That is what I have been saying because folks are more likely to help the ones they know. I know there are folks that I have met here on G&G that I would do everything I could to help them and their families to survive, just because I met them here. (others I have met here, I might just feed to the possums and buzzards. )

I honestly like to keep a low profile. If i decided to bug in, then i will (and alread do) keep a low profle., as to aoid attracting beggers or looters. Ive told my friends who laugh at me to not come to me for help as they wont get much.If I deided ti bug out, then id only have what was on my back til i got to my destination. If I thought someone wanted to take it, we'd have a problem. when i got to my destination, then my opinion would be to treat any large groups as hostiles. Two men walking up the drive would have to be very careful to avoid trouble until their intentions are clear. Even a woman with a child on foot would have to make her way all the way to her house before id help her, as she could be a trap. However, my grandpas place (said destination) is about 1/4 mile off the road and hidden by trees so most people will walk on by. That tells me that anyone coming out their is either desparate or fearless, which makes them dangerous.Of course, i wont soot first in most cases unless the incomers are aiming guns or carrying hostages or something.

Yes, a deep "slumber" Lee. I think this is partly the case because the media so very carefully camouflages what's really happening and because the reality of what's happening is too dramatic to handle for some. The reality of it all requires action, to be ready, and some are not willing to take needed actions....
