And zombies don't wear helmets. *edit* In a seige like that, the number of rounds you can throw will be a very deciding factor. Other than that, I'll just hope KR flies up in his Apache to help us out :P .

Remember, it's always good to have A-Team-type armour READY in your garage for just such an occasion. You can cut it & fit it all so that when SHTF, all you have to do is run out to the garage & Tac-Weld it on, then throw some fast seams on. If you are REALLY paranoid, you can set up a Camero like THIS... ![]() Yes, that's TWO machine guns!! ![]() And of course the obligatory missiles on the roof ![]()

The 22LR will not penetrate cover. In order to get the M16 to do it, they had to jack the the velocity to 2600 FPS+. That's never going to happen with a 22LR. Quote:

i would be interested in knowing why you would ever need another shtf weapon then your trusty 22lr.

Why? They both have better range, more velocity and energy than the .22lr. By FAR. Heres the part that's gonna get me in trouble.... ![]() I believe that the "boom!" of a larger caliber is far more intimidating than the "crack!" of a .22. You can still here an un suppressed .22 at over 3/4mile away in good cover, and it WILL draw attention. Be it (during SHTF) LE, Idiots, brigands, bandits, whatever... are far LESS likely to come looking for trouble if they here an AR, SKS or a Garand going off. Besides, if you're hunting and fire only 1 shot, you're not likely to be pin-pointed regardless what the caliber is. Besides that, there are four people in my group and one will be carrying a trusty 'ole .22 Last edited by Dragunov; 06-20-2009 at 11:42 AM.

I'd say that's about right. I may take my .22 for small game and the like like but as far as defense, I'd way more prefer to have either my 12ga or my SKS.

| I agree with you, Lobo. My personal emergency kit has a Henry AR-7 and 250 rounds of 40 grain hypervel solids (it really dislikes hollowpoints) in it, but that's mainly because A) the law won't give you a ration of grief about a pack rifle and B) a half-capable rifle is a lot better than no rifle at all. My personal choice for a "real" survival gun is either a CETME or an SKS, probably the CETME. It's heavier than the SKS, but I do like the longer reach. Either one is adequate for taking a deer or a man, and in a true survival situation those ought to be about your limit of targets. And I note that a man ought to be a target only when there is no other choice.
