the police have their own to worry about! if it should be an isolated crisis they will set up a perimeter and wait till things die down and arrest those who survived, if it should be on a larger scale? you will still be on your own!

Not as well as I'd like.
But being Colorado, we have the infamous "Make My Day" law anyway.
The thing that saddens me is how many people got arrested and their guns taken in parts of New Orleans by the police, guard and our blackwater boys.
And don't forget Patti.....YouTube - NRA: The Untold Story of Gun Confiscation After Katrina

Thumbs up

I will be moving to NW WI soon...within a planned community, albeit in the woods with hardly a neighbor in sight. This is an area of anti-tax people and some meth heads...

I am taking into plans, the possibility of natural or local problems, will store food, water...have a husky-chow-pit bull-shepherd mix...80 lbs of muscle and love...a benelli 20 will be at the back door, and a stoeger .45 cal at the front door.

I will have solar panels for charging my mobile phone and CB Radio (another form of alternative communications)

I don't expect any problems, however, In Omnia Parata

Don't forget to stock away extra reading or prescription glasses, prescription medicines, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, etc, etc etc. The things we all use every day and take for granted often get left out of the surv supplies.

If you've ever read the FOOTFALL novel by Pournelle & Niven, they had a character in it that was really stocked up for SHTF. And when it did, he got home from work to find 20 people already living in his house. He said, "But this is my house!" And those inside said, "And we thank you for the supplies, guns & ammo!"

That is PRECISELY WHY you don't tell anyone where your hideout is, what's in it, etc.

Much to be said for battleship steel doors with V-locks...

Heading west to the mountains where I'll be able to survive for a pretty long time. Not even gonna bother being around people.

'the police have their own to worry about! if it should be an isolated crisis they will set up a perimeter and wait till things die down and arrest those who survived, if it should be on a larger scale? you will still be on your own!'

Most Cops have families. If it's a big national type emergency I expect the vast majority of'm will be headed home to take care of Mama and the Kids first. Very many Agencies have no plan for even a power failure much less a major disaster.
Trust me I know.

This is pretty much the whole reason I came back to Florida. The whole family pulled our resources together and bought a large plot of land. Individulized three acres so we good put three homes on it. We are all together and all pay on the property and houses so its not so hard on one. Place is loaded with game and backs up to a preserve. My sister has some plans for starting aqua-ponics. Not real sure how it works but I guess I'll learn.
To save money I did the clearing myself with my oldest boys, and did the drainfields for the septic whole lot of work but worth it. If society breaks down we can dig in and support our selves.

Well, we've been thinking about this. We live in a fairly good neighborhood--working class with JOBS, but there is a set of projects at the other end of the street.

We've had to look into threat assesment--what do we need to prepare for. Given that we live at the major bottle neck on the ohio river, with a set of locks that annually handle more tons of cargo than the Pnanama Canal, we figure if it's a nuke war we're toast, unless we get enough warning to be gone--so no prep for that.

As to societal breakdown due to riots or disaster, we're doing our prep now--stocking up on drinking water, food etc.

Our aromory (kinda pretentious name) is in the assemble stage: a Mo-Na m44, to shoot through cardoors etc. A hi-point .380 (light for the job--but it has less chance of killing one of the kids by over penetration of a wall--house is old style construction), a 12 ga security model gun is on the list.

We'll shelter in place, but have go-bags if we have to leave. We also need to plan for power failure, and severe storm damage, both linear winds and tornados. We've no other place to go arrainged yet, although we're looking.
