Temporarily Securing Your Guns

There's always the occasion when you need to go out of town for a bit. If you don't have a gun safe or good storage site, Pawn your guns for about $50 each. Put the money in your bank. When you get home go pickup the guns, you'll pay a few dollars per gun knowing that they were in a vault while you were away.

Theres no way I could do that. It might work for some but not me. If you have a personal relationship with a pawn shop owner and trust him thats one thing. The guys operating around here look like they belong behind bars. Not to mention they were being investigated for drug dealings not to long ago.

Ask a Cop. We all used to do business with the better shops. I've even had Dealers look for things for me and then cut me a good deal on it.

Only bad thing about the pawn shop deal is that you have to redo a federal firearms paper on each one. Gotta have the checks done...many Florida pawn shops have recently dropped doing gun biz because of the headaches involved with the paperwork...the fines were eating them up.

I was in a pawn shop when a fella came back to get his guns and lost then due to a recent drunken BS with his girlfriend and a DV was involved, to get your firearm out you have to sigh a x-fer form and have a clean record free of Domestic Violence or Felony convictions just like if your buying your guns back its better to just lock them up in a construction job box than go thru all the paperwork, unless your friends with the pawn owner and he will still have to process the PW reguardless of friendship.

I would NEVER in a million years do that, even if I didn't have a safe.

I would never trust a pawn shop with my guns.

Some gun shops and stores will store your guns, better than a pawn shop. A good friend, a basement or other area like the attic.

Before I had so many guns back when I was around 22 - 23 years old I took my 4 guns to my Dads house when my wife and I went on a long vacation.

Not only this, but some pawn shops have the local PD run the s/n of all the guns they take in. Even if you bought it from an FFL it could have been reported stolen from a previous owner or the s/n could be recorded incorrectly on a stolen firearm report.

That pretty much sums up why this is a bad idea.

Among the many reasons above, you risk someone else buying your collection.

Sounds more like baiting than offering advice, in my opinion.

There is no way I would do that. If I really felt the need to put my firearms somewhere while I was gone, I could just stick them in the armory.

Sad thing is, unless the/your dog is trained to NOT take food from strangers or that it finds or gets, it's nothing a good raw steak with either poison or a sleeping agent in it wouldn't cure. But then, nothing a well placed shot would work also.

I personally could never do this, but a thief would.

Unless the dog is specifically trained to protect your property, all it will actually do is protect its owners. Few dogs that could be considered "family pets" (by the way they are treated) serve as good guard dogs.

I don't think this is a terrible idea if you don't live in a good neighborhood (where you expect your neighbors might take advantage of your absence) and don't have a safe way to store your guns. But Id probably take them to a trusted friend first, though, as it sounds like there are a few negatives about pawning them. But it is definately a worthwhile idea!

Put your guns inside a wall if you don't have anyone to leave them with.
I wouldn't want anyone seeing me load/unload all my guns in the car to leave with someone though.
Just a thought...A.H

AH, that ain't a bad idea...cut out a piece of drywall, put everything in, replace/mud/paint. It's a little bit of work, but would be wonderful for a month-long vacation.

As long as you didn't forget WHICH wall you put them in...hehehe
