A little parafin(sp?) wax over strike all matches in a film vile with some cotton packing is what my father and I carry out in wilderness. Some petroleum jelly on the cotton balls would be better as Posterboy stated....will have to update the survival kit.

I really have done the whole square of steel wool and jumper cables off of my Jeep battery. I don't recommend it unless you really need a fire bad. I carry a magnesium fire starter in addition to my Bic.
