| Survival tip Being I am new to the forums here i thought Id toss out a tip I have actually used in high country. Basically its digging a shallow trench the width and length or close to of your body, get a fire going the going in it and and when its rack out time, cover the coals with the dirt you removed, lay your ground pad and sleeping bag on it and crawl in. I have slept like this in spike camps and woken with several inches of snow from the night covering me and hardly noticed that it had snowed. Works just as well if you find yourself without a ground pad. Make sure you have plenty of dirt between you and the coals cause youll be hot all night. |

| ive used that before when i got (misplaced) in the woods as a kid.it got too dark to see where i was going. as soon as it got light i walked the couple miles back to the cabin.

| Guess you ain't never seen the movie "Jeremiah Johnson". One of the funnier scenes was about the bed of coals and not putting enough dirt on it. It sho do get hot. |

| Yep, that and "The Outlaw Josie Wales". I think I may like Josie Wales maybe just a little bit better. Hard to make a choice, really. |

| If you have rocks handy, you can heat those in a fire and cover them with dirt. They'll hold heat for hours. |

| I can't spell it correctly but it is pronounced Lone Wati. (Wotty) Got a good Josey wales quote from my source. Josey Wales- When I get to likin' someone, they ain't around long. Lone Watie- I notice when you get to DISlikin' someone they ain't around for long neither.

| Have to be careful using rocks, if they have taken on moisture there is a chance it could heat up fast and actually make the rock into a grenade of sorts. |
