I'm not going to try and list everything in our bags, heck I'd probably forget half of it. Here are some things I think every bag should have: Good Socks at least 3 pairs Foot powder Extra laces (use 550 cord) High decibel whistle At least two different forms of fire starters (Bic, Matches, flint/steel, fire piston) Tinder (cotton balls or dryer lint permeated with Vaseline works very well) Windbreaker/Rain Jacket Poncho Several large construction strength garbage bags Multi-tool Lensatic Compass Laminated maps GPS w/SD chips with details of all the states. Gloves Extra shirts/pants As much 550 Cord as is reasonable Pencil and paper Picture of your loved ones. (it will give you reason to live ) This is a very short list and only scratches the surface. Food and water, the amount depends on your area. We each have a Katadyn water filter and three MRE's in each bag. If you have questions please ask, the folks on this board love to help and are some of the most knowledgeable people I've met.

I don't have one. I'm horribly unprepared. Closest I have is an ammo can full of my three main ammo types, and there might still be some camping gear in my packpack from my scouting days hanging in the garage.

I do not have one either. I do not expect to have to bug out from anywhere to anywhere. I have a large folding knife and extra ammo in my car. That's it. If I lived in an area where there was a chance of hurricane or terrorist attack...that would be different.

Survival Bag Depends on what type of trip I'm on but usually in my small quick trip bag I carry one of those throw away aluminum pans that stuff like salisbury steak comes in. They are easily stored against the pack of the pack or bottom and fill with rest of stuff. Another item I have is a small tin mirror (could be out of a compact though) and a small plastic magnifying glass for fire starter. You guys have the rest of the stuff listed. I also pack for where I'm going, big difference surviving in Georgia Swamps and Minn. forests. Have a good'un ![]()

I dont understand what you mean by a bug out bag. I do have an old bag I have had for years and years and every time I get too close to her she says "BUG OUT".Would this be what I should have? Somehow this old bag doesnt make me feel prepared, she doesnt even make me feel necessary. sam.

i bought 2 chairman mao bags from cheaper than dirt . for $10.97. supposidly from the 60's ,made out of tank cover canvas and rifle slings for straps 15"x11"x3 . what's a "bug out bag" ? something like a muzzle loader's possible pouch? a pre packed spur of the moment" grab it and go" type thing , light weight and easily carried.
