BTW, they are expensive to rebuild. BUT you asked.

yeah but APCs don't fire 120mm depleted uranium rounds though

BA is a trickey thing when to look at body armor. It is tested and rated by penetration. Personal Body Armor maximizes your chance of survival. You would need a ballistic materiak Clay or Gel to test the vest. The one you had if just hanging on the frame , 38 +Ps will penetrate a IIIA vest put over ballistic material and it wont. Penetration over gel is different than over clay. I prefer ABA, Second Chance and Safariland, only because I am familiar with those companies. Try to get a vest with real Dupont Kevlar, although some of the other fabrics used are OK (personal preference) I have my Point Blank Level IIA vest which was issued just before I retired, I only use it on the range or I show it to the Kiddie Kops when they complain about their vest being too hot or too heavy. When you wear a vest wear a coolmax t-shirt or a carrier with coolmax this keeps the perspiration from the kevlar, which will shorten the life of your vest and help keep you cooler.

Sounds like I'd spend more than the vehicle cost on fuel :-D

And do y'all buy your own or is it issued to you (LEOs)?

Flak jacket is for FLAK...shrapnel & annoying tiny things. It's not meant for real bullets. Buy a class III BA and put it on under the Flak Jacket.

Come to think of it, why isn't the Army supplying that anyway??
