the sound of a shotgun round being chambered is a deterrent.
so is the sight of a little red dot dancing around on your chest from my crimson trace equipped .357mag.

If she can handle a .410 , she can handle a 20 ga. At the SAS shoots we have women who weigh 100 lbs shooting 20 ga SXS.

I just had to try that. Doesn't really make any recognizable gun sound. Lame because all I have to use besides 22s and some awkward mosins is my browning skeet gun.

Want to really scare them off????
Let them hear the beep, beep, beep of 911 on your cell phone.

When seconds mean life or death, help is only minutes away.

If anyone breaks in my house at night my wife will be the first to hear them, she will elbow me and wisper Did you hear that ?
Which will wake me up.
In the unlikely event the intruder were to enter our home we have a highly trained pet that should be able to handle this situation quiet well.
If not.
I have a choice of my CZ 82 pistol or a shotgun beside our bed 1 and 2 feet away.

Ya'll mention the sound of the pump, the dot of the laser, etc. I feel differently. I don't want the SOB to know where I am. I want to catch them by surprise and drop them before they know I'm anywhere around. No warning. To hell with giving them a chance to defend themselves or hide or escape to find another victim. If they are outside, they get every opportunity to avoid a conflict and back off. If they are in my house, they are dead. I don't worry about an accidental shooting as my friends and family know to announce themselves before entering.
